Shoplifting

Good gosh. Stop with this. People get away with shoplifting because they CAN. In the name of equity or whatever. Stop making making excuses for these freaking animals
No argument there.

As this is a Disney board, time to throw in a Florida tie-in. The world's foremost authority on shoplifting works for the University of Florida. UF's Dr. Read Hayes runs a lab that's dedicated to studying the reasons and methods behind retail theft; the lab is sponsored by the Loss Prevention Research Council. Interviews with the man make interesting reading.

FWIW, in an interview on the topic, he told a SF reporter that the reason that shoplifting was not being prosecuted in the Bay Area is that stores are for the most part not bothering to report it. Police depts in the region are under-staffed, and store managers are apparently reluctant to be the boy who cried wolf too many times, so they don't call unless there is potential risk to a person involved. They have also told him that in some cases they are afraid of reporting thefts for fear of gang reprisals.

An update on the issue with CA cops. So police report came and the incompetent dumb dumbs lied on it.

The forms were filled out with all the information for multiple people. The one I have knowledge of had a laptop in excess of $2K along with over $1K in other stolen stuff however the police report that came reflects only $500..isn't that just interesting...all the information filled out by someone, signed by them and yet the police report filled out by the police is missing some key info :scratchin Still marked as a felony by the way not as a misdemeanor.

I have no idea what this is. Do you have a link?

Guilty of not reading the entire thread but why doesn’t the government cover hygiene everyone is entitled to be clean even my parents were surprised by that one

And everyone is entitled to eat.
And everyone is entitled to have a home.
And everyone is entitled to health care.
And everyone is entitled to....

Not sure why you pick hygiene products as something to be surprised about the government not providing?

And why are companies not bothering to report it? Because the cases weren't getting prosecuted. Many DAs with political ambitions will only take on slam dunk cases. A current US Senator from MN was notorious for it when she was a county DA. My step-father was shot in Minneapolis about 4 blocks from where George Floyd happened in around 2000, she refused to prosecute the three people who shot him purely because of the color of his skin because she said she couldn't prove which one pulled the trigger. I was a restaurant manager that spoke with my colleagues in her area, they waited years for trials to see cases dropped against both embezzlers and robbers. Why take so much time out if there is never going to be a benefit.

Because you're not entitled to anything. I believe you should work for what you need, I shouldn't have to work for what you need while you sit on your duff. I work for other people so much that I go without what they all have because I can't afford it.

I see that as well I was coming from the point of people who are trying to work but can’t find a job

And the disabled adults who can’t work

In the photo it blew my mind that the stuff that is locked up cost easily twice the amount I typically go to Walmart for hygiene I have seen what I need for as little as 89 cents

I didn't study the pic at all. Wow, those are some wild prices indeed. More than twice what it costs me on some of it.
