Shooting through binoculars

The other day I was sitting at home, and I was a little bored, when I happened to notice my pair of binoculars just sitting there. So the thought crossed my mind, what would happen if I tried to take a picture looking through one of the binocular's lens'.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by the result.

I'm sure that since my camera is a point-and-shoot the lens fits a lot better than a DSLR would into the eyepiece.

Here are a couple of the shots I got:

The binoculars have a 50X zoom, so the pictures are a lot closer than my camera (which only has a 3x optical zoom) could ever get.

So has anybody else ever tried this? Or am I just weird?

I would like to do the same thing, but I am not sure of:
1. Making sure the camera is centered on the binocular eyepiece,
2. Getting a properly focused picture. It would be trial and error and might require using a rubber washer to get the right spacing.
