Shooting at Va Tech

lbgraves, I've been seraching the web for a reference to students hit by a car in CA and haven't found anything. I have a son in school in CA. Any further information you, or anyone else has, would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that I was watching MSNBC this morning when I saw that. I will search their site to try to find the report.

I can't believe people are getting so upset that they are showing the videos. They are not doing this to give him what he wanted, this just warns us and lets us know what goes on in these people.

Maybe next time someone hears someone talk like he did they'll actually pay a bit more attention. Instead we just want to hide everything, and live in little bubbles. And then we'll wonder why no one tried to stop the killer next time something like this happens. We want to blame everyone and ignore everything, two ways that will lead to nothing but constant repeats of attrocities like these.

If you don't want to watch it, you don't have to go to their site, and you can change the channel. I find it rather ironic that so many people complain that they are showing this video after they get done watching the entire thing :/

P.S. I find it more disturbing hearing about the people that lost their lives in this massacre than in watching the videos that this monster created. I already knew he was crazy, and this just confirms it. Having to sit and watch the backgrounds of people that will never see another day is much more troubling to me emotionally.

Text does not put across the emotion like a video does.

I'm not saying they could have stopped this guy, but maybe someone hears someone else say these things, or finds some videos. If anything, it serves as a learning tool for all of us so that we know what kind of craziness goes on in the psychotic minds.

I never claimed any of them were living in a bubble, just that the people that don't want to ever actually face the evil now. I'm sorry, you've pretty much changed everything I said into something entirely different

I'm sure not everyone watched the whole thing.

The added value of hearing him say the words is to better understand the mental distress that this disturbed person was under. I can read 100 things in the next 5 minutes that are just as if not more disturbing than what he said in that video on the internet, but to actually see someone say them better helps us understand.

Like they say, a picture is worth 1000 words (and a video perhaps 10000).

I'm sorry, I couldn't find anything about the car. It looked like it wasn't a college campus though. I was amazed at the number of other threats that happened in CA at colleges though.

Our 18 yo daughter is a freshman at Va Tech - it's hard to put into words how hard the last few days have been for us. She is safe - and home right now - my husband picked her up today since classes are cancelled for the rest of the week. I just really, really wanted her home - safe with us.

She spent the morning of the shooting locked down in a chem lab - thank goodness for cell phones - while she couldn't get good reception, she was able to text me - so we went back & forth all morning. She did know one girl who was shot, but is ok. The injured girl went to the same small Catholic girl's high school and was a year ahead of my daughter.

What has totally freaked me out the most is that she has classes in that same builidng on Tuesdays & Thursdays - it could easily have been her in one of those classrooms.

I'm SO glad she's home.

I have to disagree with this.

You better believe there are some sick individuals who are thinking 'this guy is my hero'. There is always a twisted person who follows this type of thing, idolizes the criminal and dreams of doing the same thing. The media has no control over that though. It's just the nature of human beings. Most are good and kind, some are sick, twisted and evil to the core. Unfortunately.

I am heartbroken.

I am a Hokie class of 79.

We were in Blacksburg VA this past weekend. My DS17 has wanted to be a Hokie for his entire life. He worked so hard in HS to get to be a Hokie. He was accepted a few weeks ago. We were in Blacksburg for Hokie Focus...for incoming freshman. How awesome to take my oldest child around my campus.

For you Hokies. you know how beautiful this campus is!! We had such a wonderful weekend....then came Monday. My son's innocence was taken away this week.

DS17 is a Senior at Westfield High School in Fairfax County. Yes, Westfield lost 3 this week. One evil crazy murderer and Two beautiful talented childern.

Daniel could not get home from school yesterday because of all the news media at Westfield. Cho lives next to the middle school DD13 goes to. News helicoptors overhead all day. Monday night FBI, VA State Police, Fairfax county police everywhere!! Crazy.

No they are not trying to make him into a hero, but they are doing exactly what he wanted, giving him a world wide audience. This has been confirmed by both law enforcement specialists and psychologists. If he had not wanted the world to see it, he would have never made it and mailed it to NBC. He got exactly wanted he wanted.

It is not political to be outraged by violence. There was absolutely no reason to show the videos other than ratings. I am outraged at NBC, because they had the option not to share this with anyone other than law enforcement. By putting it on their stations they made it available to everyone else.

So Yes they,NBC, are responsible. It serves no purpose to show it, except to hurt those already hurting.
