i was just perusing through the DVC member website and came across the grocery order form. I thought, "wow! that's convenient" and took a look at the form for the BWV as we'll be there in sept to celebrate DH and my birthdays (dates are 2 weeks apart, he's turning 40, i'm turning 30).

shoo! expensive! $7.75 for a box of cereal! now, i know, i get it, of course they will up the prices. but i'll definitely be either shipping down my own food or ordering from garden grocer. not sure if we are going to rent a car or not but if we do maybe we'll hit up the store.

for those of you who have stayed in studios, how do you stock your fridge? when we've stayed at moderates, we usually do oatmeal for breakfast and make pb&j's for the parks (of course we wind up pigging out on snacks all day ).

I had the exact same reaction! Ever since I have always shipped dry goods & ordered perishables from Garden Grocer or picked them up at Publix when we've rented a car.

It's on the corner across from the DHS main entrance. It's where you turn right to get to the BWV entrance. If you exit the boardwalk lobby and turn left, pass the BW convention center, cross the street at the light, then go right, it's about a block up. There's also one across from Pleasure Island, plus one near the Poly but you need a car for that one.

I usually bring some stuff with me....peanut butter, jelly, coffee, cereal. Not a lot but some stuff. This time, we'll be walking over to the Hess station to get some water, as well as other perishables. We'll bring our rolling carryon bag and stuff it with groceries. But, then again, we don't eat a lot in our room...just a quick breakfast and maybe a light lunch during the summer months.

We actually shipped down a box of dry goods when we went in February. They held it for me at the front desk. Very handy because I was able to buy the cereal and some snacks on sale that I know we like.

If I were just getting eggs, I would probably just pick them up at the resort. Yes, the price will be high for eggs, but it would be worth $1 to me for the convenience. That's just me.

After spending $42 once on a 1/2 gal of milk, 3 beers, a sm. box of butter & 2 sm. packs of cream cheese we now get groceries and beer delivered from Garden Grocer (and we only use studios). We only eat breakfast in our unit though so our groceries are minimal. I usually order a case of beer, a 6 or 8 pack of Diet Coke, Gatorade, some pre-sliced bagels, margarine, cream cheese, milk, a case (or 2) of water depending on how long we're there, maybe doughnuts or muffins, sometimes those individual cereal cups. I also have ordered frozen microwavable breakfast sandwiches (like the Jimmy Dean kind). I used to bring more food with us until we got our Owners Locker and now we try to go in carry-ons and try to avoid checking bags. Something "had to go" to do this so I usually only bring our snacks with us now. I bring granola bars and those individual trail mix packs from Costco. Oh, and I usually bring about 1/2 of a 1 Lb bag of coffee. That's lightweight and all I need for a week (I keep filters in the OL).

To the pp who's only getting eggs....just spring for them at your resort store. They'll probably be like $3 or something silly but it's certainly not worth the hassle of going somewhere else if that's all you want.

Sort of related as I came up with this question while making my GG order -- are there any restrictions on what you can carry into the park? I've got two small kids (18 mo & 3.5 yrs) so I was thinking of taking a small soft-sided cooler into the park (small enough to fit in the basket under the stroller) to just have their milk and a few snacks for the day.

To the OP: we order from GG and get milk, cokes, some breakfast items such as microwavable pancakes or breakfast sandwiches, cereal cups, and some fruit, granola bars, etc., for snacks. We stay in studios still, so I don't order any real cooking/baking stuff. I've ordered diapers and toiletry items before, too, just to save on packing space. This time we're flying SW and get 6 checked bags, so space is not such an issue. My biggest problem is editing my order so I don't order too much. Still working that out!

We pack the stuff we can. We buy milk, half and half and eggs at the Screen Door at those inflated prices. Its still cheaper than eating out, and we don't ever buy enough to make a Garden Grocer order doable. When we've done the grocery shopping thing we always buy way too much - better to spend $7 on one box of cereal you eat that $10 on three boxes of cereal where you only eat one.

When my DD was younger, she was VERY picky (she has autism and had a lot of sensory issues, so even one mac n' cheese being different from another was not good), so I would make food for her & brought it in a Thermos into the parks so she would have something to eat at the restaurants we went to. I might not bring in the milk depending on the time of year you're going, just because no cooler will keep it at a safe temp. in the FL summer heat and humidity, and you can buy cartons of milk everywhere.

I still bring in her sports bottles of water because a) they're more Earth friendly than buying tons of bottles, b) it saves a lot of money and c) the straws shove down in the cap so we never lose them & she can drink on the go.

Security goes through your bags, and you will need to open your cooler for them, but they aren't looking for snacks and milk, just dangerous items.

Our first trip to SSR we had a 1BR so we packed cereal coffee + filters and PB.

We ordered from SSR grocery Bagles Danish milk half n half butter and brown n serve links and eggs. We only did breakfast in the room.

last trip OKW studio we ordered nothing and just picked up half n half( we only packed coffee and filters.

This trip to BLT studio we will pack bagles and cereal and coffee. One new option will be our DS is doing his 2nd CP tour and we WILL have him pick up a case of beer for us and deliver it

The Hess Station is very convenient to BWV. We actually walked from the BC on our honeymoon 4 years ago to get groceries from there. They have a basic variety that I think will be sufficient for a studio.

You register with the site, load up your cart with what you want, then select your delivery date. You'll want to do this a couple of weeks ahead to make sure you get the date/time you want -- maybe even earlier if you're going at a really popular time. Their groceries are a little higher than going price, plus there's a $12 delivery fee and a tip for delivery is customary. That's why if you're not ordering a whole lot, it might not be worth it. For us, though, the convenience far outweighs the costs. We generally travel with other family members, and split the delivery fee & tip with them.
