What have you had the best luck wearing for long days at the park? I personally love wearing flip flops all summer long and the kids usually just wear them too. But I dont know if that will give enough comfort for all the walking. Any suggestions? Would socks and sneakers be too sweaty in 80 degrees? Plus any type of water related ride (I know theres not many) would result in wet (YUCK) socks and sneaks. And before they are suggested, while I appreciate the croc lovers out there, I am not one and neither are my kids.

I wear open-toed slides all day to the parks and have no problem. The kids also wear sandals all day, but usually strap sandals that hook around the ankle. I don't think any of us have ever worn sneakers to the park. Hmm.....maybe when we went in Dec. and it was in the 60's. I guess maybe we wore sneakers then? :confused3

We always were tennie's and socks-sometimes our poor little feet are hot and tired, but with all the miles of walking required, I just never wanted to chance it. If you mess your feet up the first day, the whole trip they are gonna bother you. I would suggest you walk in whatever shoes you plan to wear on your daily walks and see how they do. Our neighborhood is a one mile circuit and this is what I do for exercise. So, this is where I were my shoes to break them in for our trips. My kids don't do well that far in their sandals, or crocs. Tennis just give better support!

I usually wear flip flops, DH wears tennis shoes with socks (yuck!) and the kids wear sandals with a back strap - so I guess my family does a little bit of everything!

I think your kids should wear whatever is most comfortable for them. One thing to consider with the flip flops is stepping on and off of the moving sidewalks that you need to step onto to get on some of the rides. Do you think they'll walk out of their shoes? What about when they step up onto a ride car - are they likely to fall off? Just something to consider, depending upon how old your kids are.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for all the replies! :) I was wondering about the flip flops falling off too- I think I will buy them some strap on sandals and bring sneaks for night time. Being the girly girl I am I will prob bring every pair of shoes I own anyways

We wear Tevas...no smelly socks to deal with & they are very comfortable.
We also don't have to worry about them falling off our feet.

The best pair od shoes I have ever worn to disney is Merrells (I think that's how you spell it. I have done every other kind of shoes such as sneakers, flip flops (the worst for me), slides, keds.

They look comfy!

Flips flops all the way. I am a diehard flip flopper. I bring sneakers but usually only wear them on the plane. I would go barefoot if it was allowed.princess:

Darn it,I went to the Zappos web site for this picture. I want more Mephistos:sad1:. Maybe next month-yes, the sandals will be my prize for giving Uncle Sam money.

I rotate shoes b/c I find that no one pair are comfortable everyday all day long. I rotate flip-flop style crocs, new balance sneaks and tiva flip-flops. We were there last August and it was hot, hot hot but I still wore my sneakers some days and was fine.

I have seen kids do that.

I've always worn a comfortable pair of sandals when I go, but my skin is easily irritated, and the plastic thonged or even foam thonged sandals tear my feet up! I bought a dressy looking pair of heeled silk thonged asian-flair sandals and fell in love! the bottom is foam support to give a bit, and the silk is easy on my feet...the concern about getting on/off rides isn't so bad. I take my shoes off and stow them for rides like Soarin' but I've also worn them suspended in the air on the Dueling Dragons Coaster multiple times with no problems. I will say if you're prone to tripping and falling, it may not be easy to keep sandals on even walking...this next trip in October will be my first with the Crocs' Sassari style sandal, and I'm excited!

Oh, one more thing I find that helps me deal with the inevitable pain of park-hopping and playing till you drop is to take a single asprin at lunch time, when your feet are still pain-free but about to hit the "I need to sit down!!" point. I find it so very hard to enjoy the Disney magic when my feet are aching!:rotfl:

Thanks for the aspirin tip and do you have pics of the shoes?

I alternate my Birkenstocks (open back) and a pair of Danelle leather sandals which are styled kind of like Tevas. The Danelle's have criss-cross velcro straps in the front as well as an ankle strap so they won't slip off at all, but I really don't have any trouble with my Birks slipping off either. Teva's are always great for any weather. The most important thing is to break in whatever you wear well, and try them on long walks.

I bought a great comfy pair of sandals. The brand name is Natural Sport. I have the blue 2-strap pair. I took a quick look on a couple of websites and I can't find them.

Anyway, my days of wearing sneakers and socks are OVER. The sandals are way more comfy than the shoes and socks.

I wore my Reef flip flops the entire trip. I brought my Merrell flip flops, but my Reefs ended up being so comfy I only wore them. My DH and DD had Keens that were great. DD got one blister that I put moleskin on and she never complained.
