Shoes in the Concierge Lounges

I've read through the whole thread. I honestly don't mind what people wear in the CL - I am always more appalled at the way people behave.

MY last 3 CL stays have been at the WL - and I haven't been there since January - but I will close my eyes and imagine the following three groups on the balcony on the 7th floor overlooking the beautiful WL lobby

1. a quiet family with - two parents with two kids in their pjs eating at a table on the balcony overlooking the lobby - and

2. a well-dressed family touching all the food - chewing some while still hovering over the table

or

3. an inbetween dressed (whatever that is - bear with me) family being incredibly loud and dropping food all over
Aaaaargh! Barbarians, all! That's it, I'm staying at the Poly now! :rotfl2:

(In case anyone is offended...I'm being facetious again. BAD me!)

I don't get the concrete reason for the must wear shoes rule. It seems more like a judgemental rule, based on someones idea of social behavior, then a health and safety rule.
I'm not in the food service industry, but as all the eating establishments that I've ever been in require shoes, I've always thought it was a health and safety issue. Maybe even legal issues in regards to someone stepping on a broken glass, or fork that's been dropped on the floor :confused3 . Besides, I have a 15 year old son and for anyone who's familiar with that part of the population, I think we'd all agree that I would rather have him in shoes than barefoot anyday (darn for not having a smiley that's holding his nose).

The lounge is an eating establishment and a public place. Just like Victoria & Alberts requiring a shirt & tie, I think the concierge lounges have every right to lay down some dress code guidelines. I don't see the concierge lounge as being much different than a Bed & Breakfast and I've never been to one where the guests didn't dress before coming down for coffee in the morning. It's not your house, it's not your living room, it's shared by many. If you don't want to get dressed, call room service.

I agree 100%!

ITA

Is is THAT HARD to throw on a pair of yoga pants or sweat pants and a sweat shirt over your top?

Whatever though...to each their own. There are bigger things in life to worry about. People will do whatever they please in the end.

It used to be (and maybe is still) for heath and safety issues.
Health-to help prevent the spread of Athletes foot and Planters warts.
Safety-to help prevent slip and falls and foot injuries.
As for not wearing shoes in a child care center most of those establishments encourage guests to wear socks.
