shoes for wide feet? getting desperate

(wasnt sure where to put this post) ok kids, we leave on the 19th of October and Ive been searching for shoes for months..am freaking out! I have some decent clarks sneakers but reeeally dont want to wear black sneakers and socks with capris/in the heat etc. any ideas? all NY stores Ive tried are out or do nto carry wides. NOBODY EVER DOES (whats wiht that? my kids are both wide too and we have such a hard time) Id prefer some type of sandal, and if it can be less $ the better, though I know thats a tall order. I have a pair of W hush puppies but they are iffy to wear all day. I literally own nothing else right now unless I want to wear heels lol.

I really hope someone has a suggestion...or mama will be in major foot pain

New Balance carries wide and double wide. Also you can buy men's shoes as they start off wider.

I've been wearing them for a year and like them.


They have sneakers and sandals. Not cheap, but that's kinda the price you pay for wide feet. They are cheaper than some of the ugly orthadics I've seen though.

I wear Asics running shoes as my everyday shoes, and I wore them on my last trip in August and they were awesome. They come in wide and even extra wide. They are pricey but worth every penny. I order mine from Zappos.com.

I didn't read all of the responses, but I recommend Birkenstock. They have some "cuter" styles under the names Birki and Betula by Birki. They are expensive, but you can get some hugely discounted on 6pm.com. They are great for arch support if that is a concern for you. They do take a little bit of break in time, so wear them a bit before you leave.

They even have Disney Birkis if you want something fun

One summer I wore sandals with poor arch support and ended up with plantar faciitis The Birkis are all I wear now (except for Tevas when I want water resistant sandals).

I have not read all of the posts so this may have already been mentioned. Mason (brand) shoes. They are (only) catalog, on line, etc. Not in stores. My dad has EEE feet and they are about all he can wear. OTOH, _I_ have AAAA feet and they have shoes for those as well.

all these responses are great so glad others can relate and get this info too! Crocs baaaarely fit me, i did find a pair of flat crocs to squeeze into for around the hotel, pool etc. ($12 at Kohls!) The sneakers I wear are clarks wave, last fall's pair is a little worn so I got a gel insert to make it more comfortable and tighten a bit. I just feel silly wearing big ole black sneakers with capris---guess it doesnt matter much...I am going to look for a few more days, I just dont have the cash upfront right now to buy 3 pairs or so from online..wish I did. i also go through this with bras...I really need to get rich so i can get custom things! Or start up a new line of only wide shoes...stylish, young wide shoes! someone was absolutely right about easy spirit- they've been my go to for plain black slides or strappy sandals but this year both outlet and regular stores were too "old lady" or were wierd colors. some were even too tight, my one year odl totally wrecked my feet...little bugger. am looking into everything you guys suggested....thanks again

New Balance's SL2 last has a big toe box and is available in a number of models and colors and, most importantly WIDTH (6Es are available) among others the 928 (the 927s are better built).

Hitchcock shoes (wideshoes.com) is a good supplier.

Has anyone ever worn ASIC Tigers? I'm looking at the Serrano line for my upcoming trip. I usually wear sandals, and if its warm, I'll wear them this time, but I'm going over New Years's and expecting it to be chilly at times. I hate big, clunky athletic shoes. I have a wide foot, but can wear a small amount of regular shoes. I rarely have to buy a wide.

I'm another vote for Brooks sneakers - particularly the Brooks Ariel. I've got 10WW feet and plantar fasciitis and arthritis and these shoes are great. I also love my Finn Comfort Catalina's... they are expensive (over 200 bucks usually) and ugly as sin but my feet NEVER hurt when I wear these. I wear them with socks too but I don't care if I look like a big old dork cause at least my feet don't hurt!

I've always been on the wide side, but being pregnant definitely pushed me wider. On top of that, I have a thick foot. I can not fit in regular width shoes. I found that European shoes generally cut wider and I can buy those in the European "regular" width. American shoes start their wide sizes at 7 and I'm a 6 or 6 1/2 depending on the style. In European sizes, I'm a 37. I have shoes by Rieker, Noat, Birki, Dansko (but only certain styles), and Raffini. I have had some shoes by Ecco, but I haven't found anything lately that fits. For sneakers, I have Asics currently and previously had Saucony's that I really like. I had a pair of New Balance (wide width), but I did not like the fit and went back to Asics.

The best thing I can tell you is find yourself an old fashioned shoe store and get someone to fit you who knows what they're doing. Once you find a style that fits, order it online. It's tough enough for me to find shoes that fit that I will not order blindly from a website in the hopes that something will work and end up returning them. For me, it's a waste of time. I'm glad it works for others here who have posted.

My mom also has wide feet and LOVES her Finn Comforts. She bought her first pair in Austria and has since found them there in the US.

Haven't had a chance to read all the replies, but I also have wide feet and can never find cute shoes in wide width. If you are female, Torrid carries some cute wide width shoes. If you are male, zappos has some good options as well.

I have some very well broken in black Nikes that I wore with socks during September heat last year, and was fine and very comfortable. I had no issues with walking or sweaty feet issues, even in the heat. In late October, the heat shouldn't be as excessive either. I did buy Croc flip flops to wear that were normal width but were pretty wide and fit my feet well. Normally, I can't wear flip flops because my feet are two wide but these were the perfect width. My only complaint was that in the FL humidity, the rubber/plastic material that the Croc flip flops were made out of caused almost instant blisters - not an issue I had at home where the humidity wasn't as bad. I stuck to the sneakers all week and was fine and blister free.

I have wide feet. I recently sprained my ankle. When you do this, it swells your entire foot. I found New Balance sneakers in wide width to be my life saver. Give it a try. .

I get all of my dress pumps there since Naturalizer/Connie/Calico don't "exist" any more. (I have Narrow feet. AA foot with AAAA heel.)

FYI- I wear Brooks running shoes and LOVE them!!!
