shoes and engagement rings???

Okay, two questions for the EXPERTS First, how in the world did you get the bottoms of your wedding shoes scuffed up enough so that you did not bust your b-hind??? I have tried scraping them on the sidewalk but they still seem so slick on the bottom!! Also, and this may seem REALLY stupid, what did/will you do with your engagement ring during the ceremony? I always thought you just switched hands but I have been watching all these weddings on tv and they do not have any other rings on their hands??

I dont know about the shoes (i wore blue flip flops-- something blue!)

As for what we did-- I wore my engagement ring on my right hand and then switched it over after the ceremony. Thats what my wedding coordinator told me to do-- i had no idea what to do before the ceremony so i called my WC, Tanis, just before the ceremony in a panic and asked her. Of course-- she didnt come to the ceremony-- and i would have been somewhat embarrassed to ask the WC that did show up.

I don't know the engagement ring answer, but I used to work in shoes, so I can help with that problem!

There's a few various options for "scuffing" your shoes. You can buy rubber grippie type pads that stick to the bottom of your shoes and take care of the slippage problem. The problem with these is that it makes any sort of elegant dancing difficult as then you won't glide easily on a ballroom floor. You can also take steel wool to the bottom of the shoe to scuff it up. Or take the blade of a knife or a pair of scissors and gently make some crosshatch (x) marks along the bottom of the shoe. Sandpapering the bottom of your shoe works, too.

The ring....i did what maggimus did...i swapped it after the ceremony

as for the shoes...they do sell anti slip pads that stick to the bottom of shoes, otherwise, just wear them as much as you can...not only to get them slip proof but to also avoid painful blisters on the Big day

I'm not sure about the ring as I honestly can't remember what we did, bad I know. But have you tried rubbing sand paper on the bottom of your shoes?

I always use a kitchen skewer and lightly scrape cross marks on the soles of slippery shoes. If you don't press too hard it is really effective at giving a bit of grip!

Thank you! I also thought that you put your engagement ring on your right hand but then I never saw anyone with the ring on and, I thought maybe that was a no-no. So glad to hear I am not the only one that was not sure what to do Thanks again!!! I will be getting the sand paper out tonight.

I used some sandpaper on my shoes. Granted I would have been fine, they got well scuffed walking on the boardwalk. I just wore my engagement ring and then swaped the positions of the rings later on.

My ring fingers aren't the same either! Don't worry, just slip your engagement ring on another finger, or wear is around your neck with a nice chain, or have a family member hold it for you.

I wore my engagement ring on my right hand for the ceremony. I switched it over right before I walked down the aisle.

To scuff my shoes, I actually wore them around our apartment the month before the wedding. It had the added benefit of breaking them in so my feet were good and comfy when I wore them the day of the wedding. DH still laughs about the day I took the garbage out wearing my wedding shoes!

I danced for 14 years and did pointe for 3. Pointe shoes need severe breaking in, we (in my classes and company) would take a box cutter and LIGHTLY (enough to make a difference) cut into the bottom. If you use it be careful and if you're not used to using one, wear safety gloves, but cut about 1-2 mm in, but criss cross them. It helps alot. If you go too deep you risk ruining them. It's quick and effective.

Myprincessgirllisa's right, you can even take your shoes to places that do shoe repairs and they can add rubber cement to them. You would never notice. (We did this for tap and pointe, can't believe I forgot.)

I wore my shoes a few times to break them in and make them less slippery. As far as the ring goes, it didn't fit on my right hand, so my Dad held onto it until after the ceremony and then I put it back on.

I also took sandpaper to the bottom of my shoes. Ended up that slipping wasn't my problem. It was walking on the boards of the boardwalk so that my heel wouldn't get stuck inbetween them! Luckily I had my dance training and my parents help me to the brick walkway up to the Yacht Club Gazebo! Everyone joked that I walked the plank to marry DH!

As for the ring, it didn't fit on my right ring finger, so I wore it on my pinkie (it was a little loose, but for the ceremony my hand was either around the bouquet or holding DH's had, so I wasn't worried) and then I switched it back to the left hand after the ceremony.

I asked our jeweler about this. He said that it really doesn't matter which ring goes on first, its personal preference now. I guess there used to be certain ways that you "should" do it. My mom wears her engagement ring closest to her heart. She says that the wedding band seals the engagement forever. I think its really sweet, and probably what I will do. This will also help because my fingers aren't the same size either, so I won't have to switch them.
