Shoe shopping

I switch between my keens, my merrell water shoes, and regular tennies... I love my keens and merrells but my toes get cold at night... so tennies are for night time!

New Balance are actually known for having extended sizes and widths. You can get them in super wide.

They actually are different than Nike or Rebok or Adidas--New Balance are recommended by foot doctors because of the arch support. If you go into a comfort shoe shop (that sells shoes like Birkenstock, Mephisto, etc...) they will often sell only one kind of athletic shoe--New Balance. I have never gotten a pair, but many people swear by them.

I can't wear Keds or Crocs because they don't offer enough arch support for me. If you feet are killing you, you are wearing the wrong shoes. You need to figure out what will work for you all day in DL--there are options. You should never buy "new shoes" for DL--they need to be very well broken in before you go, or you are just asking for blisters.

One tip that really works is to put antiperspirant on your feet before you set out for the day. When your feet sweat, that is when blisters can be rubbed on your feet. Invest in a really good pair of walking socks there are many brands these days that say "anti-blister"--it will be like two layers of a cool max fabric that protect your feet.

In warmer months I wear these Merrell Sandals (often with socks):

Those are the best sandals for Disneyland EVER! I can walk all day and all night, and my feet still feel great. They have great traction, dry quickly, and are super soft on the sole and straps. I have worn them with socks, but do fine without as well. They are pretty ugly, but they really can't be beat for stability and comfort.

For athletic type shoes, these work perfectly for me:

They are by Allrounder (Mephisto) and are pricey, but they last forever and are very stylish for a athletic shoe. I wear them at DL with Smartwool Socks, and they make my feet feel great.

I had one Disneyland trip where I got blisters--and it made me fanatical about my shoes that I wear there! I promised myself it would never happen again, and it hasn't. I got the blisters on the first day, and had to spend the rest of the trip in flip flops (the only shoes that didn't touch my blisters) and my feet just KILLED me by the end of each day because of not having enough support and stability.

Do they make New Balance for wide feet? I pretty much don't have an arch, so forget any high arch problems. LOL I've paid good money for Nike's, Adidas, Reeboks ect.. It's the width that seems to always be the problem.

I got a couple pairs of New Balance shoes at an outlet mall. 15.00 for one pair and 25.00 for the second. One of the pairs was labeled wide and the other wasn't, and they both feel fine, but the one labeled average, NOT wide, seems a bit roomier. So I'd try them on. I have wide feet too, and these fit well. I also bought some Body Glide there, I had heard about it here. It seems you rub the stuff on your hot spot areas and blisters don't develop..I hope anyway. I have more trouble with shin splints at Disney than blisters.

I just bought Nike Shox... at first they were pretty uncomfy but i've just been wearing them everyday to break them in better now then on Sunday!

Your feet problems sound just like mine! I swear if you need a pair of simple flip-flops that have a good grip, ok look and major arch support I swear by these shoes.

I love who ever told me about them. I am buying a new pair today so I can get another color. I love that you bake them so they mold to your feet making them extra comfortable. And the arch support is amazing, its the first shoe that actually supports my foot, without insoles.

I sound preachy about these because I was getting killer back and knee aches from wearing my cheap flip flops and now I feel so much better. If I try to wear the flat one's now I can feel the huge difference in how it effects my whole body.

Another difference in New Balance is they make differnent heel types. One is a little narrower than the other. I think they are listed as 1 and 2 on the inserts. Personally I love my Rykas. They are made just for women with a narrower heel and wider toe box. I will take them, my Keens, and Reef flip flops to Disney. Did that last year to WDW and did fine.

A good pair of shoes is worth the money if they keep your feet from hurting!
