My dress shoes for work are all over $150 each but I wear them every day and they have to be comfortable. I don't think for an interview for an RN position that you should spend that kind of money on the shoes unless you KNOW you will wear them again. I also agree that silver shoes are not appropriate for an interview. They would be great if you can wear that suit to a Christmas party or something in the future though. I would buy some simple, neutral pumps to go with the suit and if you get the job, splurge on the silver shoes.

As a hiring manager I agree with closed toe pumps being a safe choice. I would take the extra money and buy either a nice pair of Birkenstocks, or a pair of Dansko professionals to wear for humping those long hallways! Your feet will thank you. I would routinely spend over $100 for the above mentioned uniform shoes.

I am a shoe fantatic, and I will not wear Target or Payless cheap shoes. I stand/walk in them too much for that. I've never paid more than $60 for dress shoes. I am a bargain shopper and keep my eyes peeled for sales online and in stores. I paid $21 for Charles David pumps recently!

I have a lot of shoes, but I rarely spend a lot of money on them. I like to look at places like Gordmans, TJ Maxx/Marshalls, and DSW. You just need them for the interview, so it is important that they look nice but don't have to be super comfy or long lasting.

I was all set to say go for it! But I have to agree. For an interview, you do not want the only thing that they remember were your silver shoes

Conservative, closed toe is the way to go

Once you get that job and get that first paycheck, go and buy those shoes as a celebration!

I remember watching a fashion consultant on tv. She said people look top to bottom. Spend the most up top then you can get cheaper as you go down your body. I think people would remember seeing you in a cheaply made shirt then shoes.

A cheaply made shirt? Huh? I bought a really nice suit! ANd in that line of reasoning it seems silly to pair a killer suit with a pair of cheap shoes.

Thanks for your opinion on the color of the shoes, but they really look great with the suit. It is a pants suit, and you just see a peek of the silver, which I think gives the suit something it needs, makes it a bit less stuffy. It works. And honestly I think my credentials speak for themselves, and my work history, I do not think someone is going to NOT hire me over silver shoes. So thank you for the advice, but I am really not looking for opinions on whether or not you like the color, moreso on how much you would spend on a pair of shoes that make you feel GREAT. And that is what these shoes do. I don't want to look like everyone else at an interview. I don't want to blend into the crowd.

I checked DSW, didnt find anythign that blew me away.

You know, if you don't want advice, don't come to a message board. Your credentials may speak for themselves but so do the credentials of the other 100 people applying for the job. I am sure the shoes look wonderful with the suit but the point is, you have gotten great interview advice from people here, all trying to help you, all people that have many, many more years of work experience then you do, but the point is you may very well not get the job because you wore those shoes--sad but true. First impressions often kill a job opportunity. Stuffy in a job interview for a nursing position is how you want to go. If you were interviewing for a fashion designer position, the silver shoes would be the way to go.

Feel free to ignore the advice of all the people here that are trying to help you but don't come whining when you don't get the job either.

I buy mostly Cole Haan collection shoes with Nike Air for work, so I regularly spend $150-$250 for shoes. I have picked up some pairs off of eBay for as little as $50. I have narrow feet, so cheap Payless shoes would not be an option for me even if I liked them or thought they looked nice.

The silver shoes are lovely, but I am in the they are inappropriate camp. If you want something that is not black or brown, a deep red or burgundy could be an option.

I work in finance and regularly interview people. Obviously, this a very conservative field but I like it when a candidate shows a little personality with their outfit. That being said, silver shoes are not appropriate for an interview. If the pewter color is much darker, it may work, but the silver is just too bright and flashy.

Answering the question as if I was a broke, just out of school unemployed person, I voted no more than $50. You can find very good quality, stylish shoes on sale at any number of department stores or outlet centers. I would be more concerned with conserving my funds for the off-chance I didn't get a job right away than blowing big amounts of money on a pair of silver shoes that may not look as appealing to me a few months down the road.

When I was just out of law school and needed good shoes, I went to a Bass outlet and got 2 pairs of shoes for under $100 total, and then bought a couple of pairs of netural, basic pumps for about $60. After paying for the Bar exam and the review course, I wasn't about to spend gobs of money before I had secured employment.

Is it normal for a person interviewing for a RN position to wear a business suit like that? I would think a nice pair of dress pants and a twin set or something would be sufficiant. But then again I'm an Accountant, so a suit would be what I would wear too. If you think you will wear the shoes again and you love them I say go for it. The only time I buy cheaper shoes is if I only plan on wearing them a couple times or I don't love them.

I have spent up to $100 for dress shoes, but only for ones that are not trendy and that I can get years out of. If I was in your position I would go with a less expensive version and when you get the job, spoil yourself with those. Good luck on your interview

I'm normally a cheapskate when it comes to clothes, but I have a pair of Nike Tiger Woods dress teaching golf shoes that retailed for over $150 that I got for free from the Nike rep around 10 years ago that I still wear. And that is wearing them most days of the week to work and on Sundays and other dress occassions, so truly I wear them the majority of days during the year and they are still going pretty darn strong. I could see spending $100-150 on another pair like them if they are going to last ten years. Better long term investment than spending $40 every few years on a new cheaper pair.

I agree that maybe they are not good for an interview but it also depends on what kind of job you are looking for.

I have gotten some really great shoes (I love shoes and really like heels even though I don't have many occasions to wear them) maybe a nude color shoe or check out TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I have gotten Madden Girl and all really nice brand name shoes there.

I wear dress shoes to work every day, so I need multiple pairs. I have purchased really expensive shoes just often enough to realize that they can't handle the walking that I do.

I am not into shoes at all. If I need dressy shoes they are basic pumps with a small heel. I don't think I've ever spent more than $50 for a pair of dressy shoes, usually even less than that.
