I have luck managing my weight by counting calories and trying to avoid processed food when possible. That helps me keep it simple. Also means I read a lot of labels now. Some of the things I find are shocking.

Last night I made mozzerella sticks for the family. Thought "oh I'll just have one." As I took the first bite I read the label to find that one stick has over 100 calories. I literally spit it out (I can think of better ways to eat those 100 calories).

Then there is my beloved "Ultimate Butter" Boy Scout popcorn that has been a staple in my diet for so long (have to support my 2 Boy Scouts). Finally read the label and........:scared1: :scared1: Am I reading that wrong or does one bag have over 500 calories?

Just some examples of how we can do so much for our health by just taking a minute to think before we eat. Do you have any examples?

A 13" tortilla from Qdoba (just like Chipoltes or Baja Fresh) has a whopping 330 calories!!! Imagine how much you are consuming when you add the Burrito fillings (beans, rice, cheese, veggies, sour cream, guacamole, etc). Good lord it is probably close to, if not over, 1000 calories for one burrito. :scared1:

I know I was recently :scared: when I saw that 1 Lemon Creme Chalet Girl Scout Cookie is 80 calories.

It's depressing to think of going through life without another Chipoltle burrito, I won't do it.

But, to be fair, I also am thrilled when I find a yummy, completely healthy treat. Check these out - http://www.crunchiesfood.com/nutri.htm . So good for your crunchy craving or sweet tooth. Completely guilt free. Yes you can eat the whole bag! Found them in my grocery store - a little pricey but worth it.

I tend to look at nutrition info all the time, but last night I was just thinking how funny it is. I had 300 calories left for the day. My fiancé was working late, so I had a simple dinner which was only 250 calories, hence the excess. i spent almost an hour looking at all the things I "could" eat, a cupcake, mac and cheese, cookie, a soda. I spent the time going hmm is this worth it...no. This...no. But I had to use all my calories, Dr's orders. It was just such a luxury to have so many free calories for the day, I didn't want to waste them on something that wasn't worth it. I ended up settling on premium ice cream (my favorite).

This is probably not what you are looking for but...I LOVE chocolate. Chocolate is my nemisis. We have food delivered to my work weekly and someone ordered Hostess Cupcakes. I had broke-down and had two. Then I looked at the ingredients and "beef fat" was listed. YUCK!

Now I have no problem walking past those little chocolate cupcakes.

Maybe if I take my pen and edit the ingredients in other foods it would make me avoid them as well!

Wondering...I use mozzarella sticks but the skim milk version and the nutrition info I found indicate it is less than 100 cal in the oz. I need extra calcium so use it for that as a snack to hold me to the next meal sometimes and thought of it as an ok protein source. You think that is not a good thing?

I like the crunchie link. I'm going to seek out those.

I find that the reduced fat Triscuts suprised me that they had iron (6% RDA) in them too. Also rest of nutrition info just as fyi has 3 g protein, 3g fiber, Total Fat 3.0 g--Polyunsaturated Fat 1.5 g - Monounsaturated Fat 0.5 g, Sodium 160.0 mg, Total Carbohydrate 21.0 g

7 crackers is supposed to be 1 oz. = 120 cals. If you have maybe 1 less it would give you a 100 cal opportunity.

I think maybe she was referring to mozzarella bread sticks - but I could be wrong.

My beloved Bailey's Irish Cream is evil. I love love love it in my coffee on weekends, but finally looked up the nutrition info to find that it has 94 calories per ounce! :scared1: I guarentee I've never drank just an ounce. :guilty:

I love to look up nutritional information. Just looking at Sonic's nutritional info on their website will make me sick enough that I won't go there.

I don't think I have had a Sonic breakfast burrito since I found out they were 18 POINTS on weight watchers....and I absolutely LOVE them.

Our work kitchen has Sun Chips, Baked Lays, and a variety of regular chips. I can't stand Baked Lays (gives me canker sores) or Sun Chips. I picked-up some Fritos and compared them to Sun Chips and they were surprisingly very close in nutritional values. I believe a little less healthy, but I like them and they fill me up! Plus they are more natural with only three ingredients, whereas Sun Chips had a lot of extras.

So now I get chips I really like, it is like a treat but not really a lot of extra calories.

As for Sonic - LOVE their Tator Tots, but not eating them anymore...

Sigh ... milk shakes.... sigh. Before I did low carb, I would treat myself to an occassional child-sized Cookies & Cream shake at Steak & Shake. (Hate the name; love the shakes.) But, it has like 50 grams of sugar, so it's a no-no now. (You don't want to see what's in the full-sized shakes -- like 1200 calories; loads of fat and maybe 150 grams of sugar.)

Thanks for the link! I love freeze-dried fruits and veggies, but they can be pricey and hard to find. The Crunches brand actually seems quite reasonably priced. Better yet, you can buy them by the case at Amazon at a discounted price, especially if you use Amazon's "Subscribe & Save" system.

Also, you can get free shipping at Amazon if you use Subscribe & Save or Amazon Prime, or if you spend at least $25 on eligible items. At the Crunches website, shipping seems to be $6.95 or free for $100 orders.

I just ordered a case each of the raspberries and the roasted veggies at Amazon.

Thanks for the tip, that is excellent advice.

I've been picking up a bag of these every few days - they are like $4.50 a bag and yes, I eat the whole bag at once (c'mon, just 100 calories of pure fruit, why not?)

I was feeling bad about the price and then I reminded myself that 4 years ago I would spend that on a pack of cigarettes without thinking twice. So BRING ON the Crunchies :thumbsup2 .

You are very welcome, and I think it's a great idea to compare the price of healthy food with what you used to spend on cigarettes.

About Amazon, the only problem I find with buying from them is that it's too easy! I keep being tempted to buy things. Just a few clicks, and something great shows up on my doorstep a few days later.

I had no idea...maybe this is auniversally know fact but I had no idea that ribs were so high in calories and fat. I was at Wegman's last night getting some chinese food and thought "oh, I'll just get a little piece". Holy crap, for a 3.5oz serving is has 390 calories and 16g of fat. Wow.

BTW, if anyone else has a Wegman's grocery store in their neighborhood, some of their chinese food is really low calorie and low fat-like the peppered chicken and the fish. Just stay away form the breaded stuff. Oh yeah, Wegman's has all their nutritional information online. I love that store!

Little Debbie snack cakes. I don't have the info cause I don't buy anymore but it was crazy. I would buy for the kids and then realize it was like 180 and 14 fat, guessing here, no way! I don't want my kids to eat that.
