I recently invited three friends to join me at SSR for what we're calling the first road trip of the "old broads brigade." None of them has been there before. I'm all excited to show them my beloved WDW. I know there's more than enough to do on property to keep us amused for four days. No sooner do we sit down for our first planning meeting than everyone starts asking what else there is to do in Orlando. What else? WHAT ELSE?! I confess that although I'd been to WDW at least six times I had never been off property other than to one time meet local friends for dinner.

So now they're all looking at me like I'm like I'm some pathetic Disney groupie, which I am, of course. I explain that it's more fun, easier and less time-consuming to hang out there, even if we don't go to the parks everyday. I explain spas, pools... I also tell them about the free bus from the airport, free trans on property, the ambience...I further explain I haven't the vaguest idea how to motor around Orlando, nor do I intend to learn during our OBB trip. They think I'm beyond weird; I think they're crazy for not wanting to hang out at WDW the whole time. I do not go to Orlando to take in a museum. I go there to commune with Mickey and Co.

Regardless, I know we'll have fun--if they do things my way. ;)

Amateurs! :confused3

I feel for you. I AM a Disney Pathetic Groupie.

I hope you all have a terrific time!

Been there, understand that. Last year, while planning our April '09 to WDW, we mentioned to a neighbor that we were staying 7 days on property. She said she had been to WDW about 10 years ago and had done everything there was to do in just 2 days. !?!?

In June, we had a family reunion at WDW beginning Sunday, June 7. We told our family members that they should fly in early so we could catch some of the Star Wars Weekend at Hollywood Studios, or maybe go to MK because it had EMH that night. Would my family do that? No! One of sisters and her husband said they would have to leave their house around 6:00 AM to catch an early flight. Instead, they opted for an afternoon flight and they didn't get to their resort until 8:00 PM.

Where do these people come from??

I count my blessings that my dear wife enjoys Disney as much as I do!

I found that quote to fit the Disney experience perfectly..

:thumbsup2 Bless their hearts they think they can walk to MK from Pop Century, too. I think once you get to each park they will be amazed at what is in store. I think there will be plenty to satisfy each one. People trully do not realize how big the place is--you just have to see it to believe it.:worship:

Just let the trip magically unfold.....popcorn::

It depends on how narrowly you want to focus during your trips. Here are just some of the things we have done in Central Florida that it is impossible to do on property:

-- Watch shuttle launches at Cape Canaveral - spectacular, even more so at night
-- Swim in Florida's crystal clear natural springs, and fight the water flow to dive into the source of a spring
-- Watch manatees winter in large groups in a spring (it's like fresh water whale-watching)

You may not find any of these things interesting, but there is a lot more excitement in CF than what you can find at WDW. So it is understandable that lots of people enjoy venturing off property from time to time.

Hello, My name is Leigh Anne. I too AM a pathetic Disney groupie. Can someone tell me how the 12 step program works? lol:rotfl::rotfl2:

Sorry, this was the first thing that came to my mind when i read the post. I, too, believe there is not much else worth doing in orlando besides Disney! Well, maybe a few. i really want to swim with the dolphins and check out Aquatica but that is it for me. Disney is the way to go. Tell them about the fabulous shopping at DTD. That is as close to outlet shopping i get there! World of disney is always a must several times while we are there.

UGH! the ignorance of people who just don't get Disney.

I have friends who swear they have done all Disney has to offer in one week. They also believe my family is weird that we go back at least once a year.

Me...I think they are weird for not wanting to go back.

:wizard: Disney is my crack . I have been an addict for 8 years now. I will go off the deep end in October. Currently I feed my habit by listening to my Disney CDs daily and spending time on the DIS--a lot of time--visiting my crack friends.:hippie:

 Pathetic Disney groupie checking in. We have been to WDW twice, both trips were 11 days and not once did we step off property but to get to the airport. pixiedust: What else is there to do? :faint: I say find new friends! :rotfl2:

I'm totally Disney groupie...but I think I've come close to doing everything in a week. But geez...you have to be the ultimate commando to do it.

I take that back...I don't play golf, do pools, or play tennis.

But...in a week's time..I've seen about every inch of the parks, seen all the fireworks, went to Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island, gone to a Dinner show, rode a surry bike, and a sea raycer.

Now that I'm DVC, I don't have to do that!!!

We'll be right there with you! And after spending the day in the parks, we'll pay again to stay for MNSSHP! Try explaining that one to a non-DISer :rotfl:

That has to be the best way to say it I have ever heard. Well done!

You mean there is a stuff outside the gates of Disney World? I thought it was just connected to MCO airport and there was nothing in between.
:rotfl2::rotfl2:

There is nothing else to do in Orlando unless you want to go to ANOTHER park ie Sea World. Orlando is kind of a pit, there are no Museums really and the beaches are an hour away. Take them to Jellyrolls the first night and they will not want to leave ;)

I would love to go that often to WDW. I love it there. But the plane cost prevents it for me. HOWEVER... DL is a 5 1/2 drive and I go about every 2 months. In fact I went 3 times in May alone. No People do NOT understand my disease. However, it is wonderful to feel the support from this group...:rotfl:

My mantra to my DSs as they were growing up was "There's more to Florida than Disney World" but still, whenever we stayed on site, there was more than enough to do to keep us happy. Since your friends never were to WDW they really have no idea of all WDW has to offer. I'm interested to see how you're going to handle it and how you all come away from the experience.

There are lots of things to do/see in the Orlando area. If I had to pick only 1, I would definitely go to Winter Park, see Rollins College and do the boat ride through the locks.

It amazes me too! People who asks us about what there is to do at WDW, and how can you get a weeks worth(or Lord forbid 2 weeks worth) out of the place. Then they start asking about Universal and trying to fit that in. I feel your pain;)

I go to central Florida for one reason ,WDW. If it was in Iowa I would go there. My three interests in Florida are WDW, the beach, and Port Canaveral (Disney cruise). When we go to central Florida we go from the airport to WDW, than from WDW to the airport.
