Shipping wine to the resort?

I'm going to be at AKL for two weeks. My friend is also there during most of that time and we do like to have wine in the evenings. I admit to being a bit of a wine snob and would love to find decent bottles that I can have delivered without being charged twice what they're worth. Anyone out there have any experience doing this?

The Publix market at US 192 and Celebration Ave is quite large and has an extensive wine selection. If you can't get there yourself, you might ask WeGoShop to pick up what you need. They will shop anywhere, and you can specify exact brands, etc.

There are probably some specialty wine stores in the WDW area; hopefully other posters can point you to them.

If you are really particular about your wine, you'd be better off doing your own shopping, taking a cab if necessary.

The prices are a bit higher, but I haven't found many of the bottles at WDW to be double their price unless they are purchased at meals. Normally I'll go around Epcot and pick some of the bottles I like most and bring those back to the room for later.

In the event I want to bring a specific wine, I just bring it in my suitcase and check my luggage. Also helpful for bringing bottles of wine home after the trip.

We are wine snobs, as well. We use these for our trips:

Jet Bag

In fact, I just got done packing 6 of ours for our upcoming 8 night stay and I commented to DW that it is time to get some new ones. They are reusable and we have probably had them for 4-5 years. They hold up well and we have yet to lose a bottle. They do add weight to the suitcase, if that is a consideration. We are checking at least two suitcases, so we can spread out the weight.

For two weeks, it may be tough to carry enough of your own wine. If you have your own cellar, you may be able to ship to yourself at the resort. It may cost $45-60 to ship, and you would want to have it shipped temperature controlled. I would think that it could be received and held until you arrive.

Otherwise, you could probably use WeGoShop as mentioned above or rent a car and go shopping when you get there.

I'd be careful and investigate fully before shipping wine privately. While FL has gotten less strict, I know some counties still prohibit it and wouldn't know specifically about OC. Also the hotels with a business center will charge to accept any packages.

Thanks for the replies!
The Jet Bags are a great idea. Perhaps I'll bring 6 bottles that way just so I know I have a few favorites on hand!
Nerderella, when you pick out bottles at Epcot, will they send those to your resort for you as they do with other purchases? We will be in WS on the second night, so I could have fun picking a few bottles in Italy and France...

We have used wine skins many times without any breakage. I'm always looking for a new wine to try...any favorites you suggest trying?

So many wines, so little time to try them all. ;) What types of wine do your prefer?

I have had things shipped to BLT many times and have never been charged a fee.

The last time a couple weeks ago I had Kona Coffee delivered from Hawaii and the mail man delivered it to my room.

Try the search engine Wine Searcher this will let you know by State where you can buy and have delivered your favourite wine.

It's really easy to use.

Yes -- they can transfer it to your room -- i think it won't get there until the next day, but for your situation, that won't be a problem. They can also send it to the front of the park for pick up when you leave.

BrerNashville, have you done this personally. We tried last December and were told no.

At F&W, I know I was given an option to have it packed up to be sent somewhere -- I thought it was a choice either to the hotel or the front of the park. I recall because when I declined the packaging, I was warned to not be caught drinking that wine in the park because if I were caught, it would be confiscated and I would likely be kicked out of the park. Now that was in the Yellow Dome, so maybe their rules are different than the WS generally?

Well, I'm going to buy the wine check set because I think 10 bottles is about what I'll need and then I'll have it in the future.
But I will definitely ask about resort delivery at the pavilions and will report back here.

As a rule they deliver to a central location at DVC resorts rather than directly to a room. Unfortunately you may get one answer now and have another experience when there.

I enjoy a great variety! Really, there haven't been many I don't "like". I usually prefer something dry other times I like something sweet. I guess I'm still trying them to find the one I love.

The only time we have had our purchases delivered directly to the room was when we stay club level.

On the white side, a lovely summer-time wine is Vinho Verde, a slightly effervescent wine hailing from Portugal. It's light, airy, and exceptional with light salads and seafood. A little heavier in body, Torrontes is a largely Argentinian varietal that hints at being a Chardonnay but with a bit more aromatics (my favorites have a hint of lavender) and minus the oak or butter hints that many Chardonnays possess. From the reds, we enjoy Pinotages with our favorites coming from South America--their uniqueness is unmistakable: lightly smoky with lots of berry and pepper notes. While not exactly a lesser known wine, Montelpulciano d'Abruzzo is our go-to accompaniment to most Italian sauces, especially long-cooking one such as Bolognese. Finally, Chile has a wonderful red called Carmenere: succulent, with moderate tannins, and dark berry flavors. Equally adept at complementing a steak or a burger. Slainte!
