Shipping: What's the most you have paid?

What is the most money you have paid to have one or two pins shipped within the states?

I think I am in another Live and Learn situation. Luckily nothing major.
I bought a CA preview pin for $5.
This is what was written on the auction regarding shipping:
"ACTUALLY SHIPPING COSTS WILL BE DETERMINED UPON RECEIPT OF WINNING BIDDERS ADDRESS."
I pondered that when debating about bidding, thinking well maybe the seller is covering themselves for overseas shipping.
I had to e-mail the seller my address (twice) before I rec'd the response for the shipping cost -- $4.75.
Hhhmmmmm... $4.75 to ship a $5 pin...
I wrote the seller back asking why so much. (From CA to mid section of U.S.)

Hi off the Ebay-disney site we got a pin from there LE only 100 made had to pay
$9.00 in shipping. And the bad part we got two pins they had to be shiped in diff boxs
so now it $18.00 for two pins to be shiped. Never again will I buy from the Ebay-disney site

One time we won multiple auctions from someone and the seller quoted us $10 and change for shipping from the midwest. The package arrived with shipping totalling less than half of that. THAT was a bit of sticker shock.

I'm sure sellers add a nominal amount to the shipping to allow for the packaging -- box or envelope, bubble wrap, etc. -- but that shouldn't add too much more. I would think 50 cents for a LBE?

At $4.75 for one pin I would expect it to arrive priority mail ($3.50 for under two pounds) plus insurance (85 cents on that small of a value, IIRC).

With all the items that seem to have gotten lost in the mail recently, it's possible that the $4.75 is for priority mail, insurance and tracking (actual total is $5), but I would still ask if it could go first class insured, that's only about $2 inc. envelope.

There are some people out there who try to make a buck by charging extra for shipping. I know some people ship priority and that is fine, but some people charge $4 and only pay .55 cents to ship. I think including the LBE $2 is normal charge unless it is priority and/or insurance. I tend not to bid on auctions that have a high shipping charge unless it is priority, no matter how bad I want the pin! I feel cheated if I pay the high shipping!
