OK, Dsis, DBIL and nieces just emailed me their flight information so they are definitely going with us, yay ! Now I have other things to obsess about, lol.

Anyway, we're going to be staying in a dedicated 2BR in Kidani Village. Since we're going to have a kitchen with a refrigerator, we're planning on eating most of our breakfasts in the villa to save a little money (and hopefully get an earlier start at the parks). I've checked out Disney's prices on food and I think we could do better shipping all the non-perishables from home. We're not planning on checking any bags since DS is 13 and DD is 10 and they're able to help with the carry-ons and we'll have the washer and dryer in the room to do laundry.

How does shipping to the resort work? Do I just use our names and the resort's address? Then do we have to claim the package from the front desk?

And how does this compare to ordering groceries from another grocery delivery service? What do other DVC members recommend?

I should add that we're using Magic Express to get from the airport to the resort so I can't do a grocery stop.

We have done both - shipped to resort and bought through garden grocer. I would definetly recommend both. When you ship just use the resort address and put Attn: Your name and arrival date. We didn't ship any food we shipped diapers and sippy cups and our halloween costumes for MNSSHP. Garden grocer was wonderful and they are very well priced and very easy to work with. We ordered food both non-pershiable and pershiable and even shampoo and conditioner. It was so easy and so worth it - we are using them again for our September trip.

I just shipped a big box of stuff (44 Lbs) to SSR for our Owners Locker via UPS last month. Just use the resort address that's on your confirmation. When I called SSR directly to ask about instructions they asked that I ship it to myself at SSR and include our arrival date. They also asked that I put our ressie confirmation number on the box somewhere. UPS was pretty cheap for 2 day business ($28 for all that) and included insurance for up to $100 contents. I shipped on a Monday & it arrived on Wed. + I had a tracking number which listed who signed for it. I printed a copy of the delivery confirmation & brought it with us. I asked about it at check in & the CM didn't know anything about it so I showed her the print-out. It was at Bell Services and I had to sign for it. I also ordered a case of water from Costco to be shipped directly there too (also ordered on Mon. & it arrived on Wed.) $7!!:thumbsup2 Would to do both again in a heartbeat!:thumbsup2

For non-perishable food I would probably just get it delivered with the rest of my perishable food from We Go Shop or Garden Grocer.....

How long did your package stay at Bell Services before you arrived? I ask because I read from another board that the resorts charge $5 now for storing/handling of packages...

I shipped / ordered my stuff on a Monday, both packages arrived on Wed. & we went down on Friday. I wanted to have a day or two cushion for them to arrive before us without them sitting TOO long. BTW, they are only charging to hold packages at the Convention Resorts but I thought it was more than $5.:confused3 In our case last month we were going to SSR so there was no charge as it's not a convention resort.

Like AnalAnnie, we shipped to our resort and put our name, confirmation number & arrival date on the package. We shipped ours to arrive the day before we did. We have yet to be charged for our packages to be held, but I have heard others say that they were charged $5 or $10. The last time we did this was in December so maybe it changed for 2009 or we just don't stay at the resorts that do this. We used the address on our DVC confirmation as the shipping address.

I read somewhere that the charge is only for resorts that have a convention center. I guess that's to keep the conventioneers from shipping a huge mass of boxes and leaving them sit for days. Since we're staying at AKV, I don't think we'll be charged.

Thanks to everyone for responding. This is my dSis and her family's first visit to WDW and our first visit "home" so I'm really looking forward to it and trying to make it a really wonderful trip for them.

We just stayed at BCV (a convention resort) mid May. I shipped a small box (about 12 lbs) and was charged $5.00 fee. Here's what I do for every trip......whatever meals I'm planning I premeasure dry ingredients (i.e. spices, maybe rice, noodles) and pack in labeled Ziplocs and ship them. That way I don't need to order an entire bottle of spices or a whole box of rice, etc, etc. Then, I just order any fresh ingredients I need for the meals from Garden Grocer. I also remove cereals, snack bars, etc. from the boxes and just leave in the liner bags to save space and line the box with bubble wrap to keep everything from getting crushed. I used to order water from Staples (when it was free shipping for Rewards members) but, have recently started ordering the water from Garden Grocer also.

I would rent a car for a day and do all my shopping. Publix and Wal-Mart are only a few minutes from Disney. That way you can pick up anything that you forgot to pack along with your food. What happens if they lose you box. They lost ours for 4 days last year.

Shipping to BLT, BCV, or BWV now has a extra fee because the boxes are processed by a outside contractor.

Does anyone know the exact rules on whether you get charge $5 or $10 at a convention resort? I ask because I'm assuming BLT will fall into this as well.

Also, if anyone is interested, another option for groceries is Net Grocer (http://www.netgrocer.com/) they have a very large selection, prices are reasonable, and delivery fees are similar to wegoshop.com and gardengrocer.com One thing that I really like about them is that they have a large selection of gluten-free items, which is perfect for us since DD has recently been diagnosed with Celiac.
