I am planning on shipping a box to myself at the resort. I have all the addresses and such for POP from the POP thread.

I am wondering, exactly what do you ship rather than take in your suitcase? What are some good items to ship?

I wont be having a fridge or such so I wont be buying any water/food from gardengrocer.

Thanks!!

I ship items that are either too bulky for my suitcases (cheap reusable water bottles-ones I won't mind leaving behind, prior year souveniers) or things that I know I will use and won't be bringing home with me (i.e. powder drink mixes for water bottles, bathroom supplies, snacks, purex laundry detergent all-in-one sheets).

quick question, i've read so many things about shipping

but how does it work?

When do you ship it? Will the resort hold it for that long?
What carrier do you use?

Thanks in advance!

There's a sticky somewhere--on the Resorts forum?--that explains the ins and outs of shipping to the WDW resorts. It recommends shipping via FedEx or UPS rather than USPS and explains why.

I'm in the western US and have to ship earlier than those closer to WDW. Time of year also is a factor. We enjoy visiting WDW in December and you know how busy shipping is at that time of year! So I ship a solid two weeks in advance via FedEx or UPS ground. It usually arrives 2 to 4 days before we do. I put a label on all four sides and the top with the information, including: Please hold for guest arriving MM/DD/YYYY. No matter how they stack it--except upside down!--the information is visible! *LOL*

Edited to add:

Just verified that the sticky is on the Disney Resorts forum.

I ship a styrofoam cooler and place the items I need inside it. It needs to be in a sturdy cardboard box--I usually use another box to reinforce the one I'm using for shipping.

Primarily, I ship consumable items that I won't bring home with me and don't want in my luggage.

Partial large tube of toothpaste for everyone to use. Pack a small travel one in carry-on bag for emergencies en route.

Partial bottle/tube of lotion.

Partial bottle of saline solution (for contact lenses). It's pretty close to empty by the time I depart for home!

Some snack items (must be light weight). Some people ship cereal, granola bars, juice boxes, etc.

ZipLoc bags. Gallon, quart, sandwich and snack. Use gallon-size bags for ice for the cooler and change the ice as needed without having to empty the cooler. One bag usually lasts two or three days with reasonably careful handling.

Partial roll of paper towels. It's easier to use napkins from the food court--and cheaper! *LOL* But sometimes it's nice to have a few paper towels!

If everyone uses the same shampoo/conditioner, you can pack partial bottles/tubes of those and jetison the unused portion. We all use different products, so it doesn't work for us.

You get the idea. Things you won't bring/ship home, but need a larger quantity than one travel size product or snacks that will cost less with puchase and shipping than buying at WDW. The latter isn't a factor if you have a vehicle or plan to place an order with WEGOshop or GardenGrocer.

When we took my BFF's DD, DGD, and DGS to WDW, I also packed surprises for them. I warned BFF and her DD to save a little space in their luggage, but kept things small and light, so it wasn't an issue. And the items were a surprise! :)

awesome, thanks for the info, gonna look that up now

To start off, I am a frequent-flyer (for work), so me AND my companions get to check two bags each for free. So now, it's a no-brainer - just pack everything.

But even before I got that perk, I did some checking, and found that for us, shipping items is a waste of time and $. The shipping fees were more than the checked baggage fees. Not to mention the time it took to get things to the shipper, both from home and when you need to coordinate that from your travel destination. I think that for some, the convenience might make it worth it, but if you are checking a suitcase anyways, I don't see the point.

I just finished packing my box for our trip in a couple of weeks. My box contained:
Diapers for my 18 month old, wipes, and baby powder
An extra sippy cup, toddler utensils and a snack cup
Ziploc bags
Snacks
Kids halloween costumes
Some toiletries
the kids sunglasses
Individual drink flavor packets for the water I am having shipped from Costco

I cost me $12.58 to ship it there. That is through my company though.

Tuna cans with can opener, plastic mayo small jar, snack bars, gummies, gum, batteries, vitamins, cereal boxes, disposable bowls, plates, spoons, forks,....small dish soap, dryer sheets, clorox wipes to clean the room, and other items that are not packed in our suitcase for the plane ride.;)

We do a towncar ride to our resort with the food store stop - so then we buy fruit and water bottles at the food store stop.:goodvibes
