Food Court Microwave Question

My son has severe food allergies, and while Disney does a great job, there are some things he prefers to make himself. That requires a microwave. We've always stayed at OKW so that we have the kitchenette, but on an upcoming trip with just him and me, we are doing Coronado and staying in the tower. I know that there is a microwave in the food court that is accessible for him to use, but will it be accessible 24 hours, or just while the food court is open? I'm trying to decide if it is worth it to add a couple hundred more to our trip to move to OKW. I do know that I can request one, but I also know it isn't guaranteed.

I don’t know this for certain, but I believe the food courts are closed (and doors locked) after a certain time (11:00 p.m. or so). You might wish to contact the resort directly to see if they can assist or perhaps another poster would have more recent experience with this.

I just stayed at CSR and saw the microwave. It is inside the QS gated area so no access when closed.

I’m not sure of price difference for your dates but value AoA suite and ASM family suites have a microwave and more space.

If your son has severe food allergies, I would be seriously concerned about cross-contamination from the many others that also will be microwaving their food in the unit. You could try and clean it but it would be quite a project to get it as spotless as you might require. Perhaps other DISers will have some clever ideas to offer.

AoA is out because he doesn't like the skyliner. 🤣

His food is in containers and covered. It shouldn't be an issue.

Just a FYI for anyone who may not know, the All-Star Resorts DO offer 24/7 access to the Food Court microwaves and toasters and Beverage Islands.
Thanks for this info. I thought this might be the case, but we haven’t stayed there in a while.

Can you still request a microwave to be delivered to your room? At one point I believe you could, not sure about now. Might be worth a phone call or chat with Disney.

I’d put the microwave request on our reservation, then follow through on check-in day.

As much as I enjoy OKW, Gran Destino is beautiful. If microwave was a deal breaker for us, I’d look at getting a cheap microwave delivered rather than spend a couple hundred moving to OKW.

We’ve ordered many things through Amazon Prime to our resort before arrival, and it’s worked well. I’m seeing one and 2-day delivery for many options in $60-70 range. I rarely use Walmart delivery or Instacart, but those have $40-50 options.

I would not count on a microwave from resort. Req but have another plan.
Walmart delivery would be what I would do.
Just leave it at resort. If someone before did this, resort would have one that YoU could use.

Good idea on ordering a microwave, definitely cheaper than moving to a deluxe resort. And I'd rather stay in the Gran Destino Tower than an OKW studio any day!
