I've heard of people doing this and am interested in trying it out. What do you do? Just find the address to the resort and send it a few days ahead of time. Will it be at the front desk or luggage services? Has anyone's packages ever been lost? We're traveling in a small car this year, so I'm looking for ways to help us lighten the load.

We are doing this in October!

I am sending it one week before we arrive right to the resort address, addressed to:

Jane Smith, Guest
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter
2201 Orleans Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

ARRIVAL DATE: OCTOBER 3, 2008

I am sending it UPS, so I can track it and know when it arrives.

I'm curious - does anyone ever send a box home? How do you do it? Is there a UPS/FED EX place on property? We will not have a rental car to drive it somewhere to ship. I don't expect to have to ship back, since we are sending all consumables down, but you never know.

We just mailed ours thursday . . .
I called the resort ahead of time and they told me what to put on the label . . . :teacher:
Went to UPS and they boxed it up for me. Also got a AAA discount! Less than $25! :thumbsup2

Very simple, I would do it again . . . well provided it gets there . . . but UPS does give you the tracking number so you can see where it's at and when it gets there.

I sent an order directly from Quixtar to CSR. It will be waiting for us at the front desk when we arrive tomorrow.

I actually called the other day about shipping a box back--i am going to ship a box with a premade packing label in the box we ship down they told me that i could leave it upon checkout for their daily UPS pickup.

Is it a pre-paid label? How are you paying for it? I'm so confused - lol :confused3

We are in New Orleans and will be arriving at the GF on Sat. Aug 23rd. We shipped 2 boxes (1 at 15 lbs & 1 @ 8 lbs) to the resort. It cost about $14.00. total. I called the GF ahead of time and they told me exactly what to write on the shipping label. I shipped them on Wed. the 13th expecting it to get there in time for next week and it arrived on the 15th! and we sent it ground. BTW, it was sent via UPS. If I had know it was going to get there that fast, I would have sent clothes down too!

great idea for sending items not allowed in carry on luggage and with the price of luggage it helps but i suggest if sending shampoo or anything wet put it in a ziplock to prevent leaks before boxing

In November I shipped our luggage down in a cardboard box. Inside the box, I put what was leftover of the packing tape and a pre-addressed label with my home address so I could ship my luggage back home in the same box. I also had some snacks, coffee and filters, sunscreen, etc. The afternoon before we were leaving, I packed up the box, taped my label on and brought it down to the front desk and told them I wanted to ship it UPS. They weighed it, and told me how much it would cost and asked me how I wanted to pay. I told them to just add it to my room charges. It worked really well.

If you go onto the UPS website and enter your info - where you are shipping from and to and the approximate size of the box, the site will tell you how long it will take for the box to arrive depending on how much you want to spend. I went the really cheap way and it took the longest to arrive, but it did arrive exactly in the amount of time the website said it would.

You can also have Garden Grocer deliver bottled water, shampoo, soaps, laundry getergent, sunscreen, almost anything you would find at a grocery store, to your resort room. There is a $40 minimum purchase, then they charge $12 to deliver to your room. We always use them. We have our things delivered the day we arrive and the box is at bell services. They will bring the stuff to your room or you can pick it up yourself.
Have a great time.

yes, in 2000 my inlaws bought the whole place and couldnt bring it all home. so they shipped 2 very large boxes home. they took a little over a week, but they did it right from their resort which at the time was the tree houses.

To those who called the front desk an asked-how did they tell you to address the label?

Thanks.

when we ship our toiletries ahead to Pop, i'll "decorate" the outside of the box with pink computer paper and a picture of one of our stuffed pigs on it as well - makes it easier to find when at the hotel - "the box with the pigs!"

When shipping down

Put the name of the resort
Full resort address
Your full name and write, "arrival date Aug. 23"

It that simple.

Shipped down yesterday for arrival next Monday. It went down Priority Mail addressed to Caribbean Beach with the resort address.

Then on the top and on each side I wrote hold for xxx/xxx (we have two names on the reservation) arrival: AUG 25 08. Last year when we checked in the desk had the reservation noted that there was a box on hold and it would be delivered into the room.

As for shipping back, I most years buy a snowglobe, that gets shipped directly at purchase time. Anything else, I pick up a flat-rate UPS box and simply bring down to the front desk to go out with the mail.
