Just wondered if anybody has any experience of sending packages to DVC resorts and if so how long they would hold them. We are going in about 3 weeks. Not sure if you can do it at all and if so are we pushing our luck?

We recently did this with our annual Christmas Tree exchange. We had a few problems here and there, but it looks like nothing was lost by Disney (some by the shippers!).

Mark the package clearly to the name of the person on the reservation. Note that his is not always the person who made the reservation! Mark it like this:

ATTN: GUEST <name of guest on res.> ARRIVING <date of arrival>

Resorts with convention centers may route the package to the business center, in which case you may need to pay a fee for them to deliver it (I know this includes Contemporary and BoardWalk, but it seems Contemporary did not charge and did not route to business center).

Track your package and call when it arrives. Make sure you get signature confirmation. The package will be held by one of three groups: Bell Services, Front Desk or Business Center (if there is one). Find out which one has it and GET NAMES. That will be key to finding your package when you arrive.

The longer it sits, the more likely it could get misplaced, but we had good lucj with trees waiting a week or more.

Always get names, that can REALLY help.

We ship boxes to our resort frequently. Most recently was when we checked in to BLT on 12/21/11 (2 weeks ago). I shipped UPS Ground and the boxes arrived 2 days before we did. There was a $3 fee per box (we had 2) because the CR is a convention hotel with a business center. For DVC resorts, BWV, BCV, and BLT each have business centers so there will be a charge to pick up your box. The fee is based on the size/weight of the box.

If you go to the shipping companies website you can see how long your package will take to get to WDW. UPS and FedEx are delivered directly to the resort or business centers. USPS is sent to a central sorting facility on property and that can add a couple of days to the delivery estimate.

I have shipped a box out every year for the past 6 years without issue. Typically ship at least 2 weeks ground ahead of travel time, mark my box outside with name, arrival date, and in my case the ressie # as it is in my name. We only do carry on and no car (we rely on the WDW bus) so we ship a lot! snacks, lotion, coffee, cereal, shampoo, wipes, micro mac n cheese...... luckly I'm allowed to use my work's shipping rates, never costs me more than $10 for the huge box.
