If the $10 fee wasn't there, would it really be cheaper to ship it?
$45 is ridiculous. Let us know how much they charge to ship it/what size suitcase you use. I would actually like doing this. I think it would add to the building excitement of the trip in a way.It would also be nice to arrive at the airport and only have carry ons to deal with.
luckyman_apd said:Carry ons you say! Spirit charges $50 for anything that goes into the overhead bin and that is if you pay at booking.....$100 if you bring it the airport or at the gate! They offer low fares, but they rob you for everything else. I mentioned shipping our cruise luggage to my wife and she just raised an eyebrow at me! I will investigate and definitely let you know what the cost is. I have read that it really saves on oversized or overly heavy luggage.
WOW!!! If you didn't know this in advance, that could be a really shocking discovery at the airport! Do they charge if it's a bag that fits under the seat in front of you?

HA! I actually love SW, and will pay a little more out of principle because of no bag fees, seat fees, good customer service. But the only flight they offer that day we can make is very inconvenient. Spirit's itinerary is perfect, but the no frills isn't translating into a lower cost....just a better time.
After booking the flight, it's not as bad as I found on the website. It's only $30 per bag if you prepay up until 24 hours prior to departure. At 24 hours in advance you can check in. Once check in opens, if you prepay a bag then (within 24 hours of departure time) you pay $35. If you arrive at the airport and check a bag then, it's $45. So, it gives time to figure out how many bags we need, and can pay the lowest rate for that. I'm still curious about shipping the luggage though. It could be easier on some trips to not have to worry about checking it......and a delivery service like UPS, USPS, or Fed ex is FAR less likely to lose it than an airline!
I'd be really careful with shipping. We shipped luggage to WDW our last trip and because we didn't allow enough time (you ideally need more than a week), we had to pay additional charges to make sure it made it to the resort in time. One relatively light box cost over $50 to ship. So I'd look at when you are shipping, size of the box and how much it weighs. Depending on what you pack, it may be cheaper to let the airline do it.
