I have read on these boards how people ship groceries and supplies from home via UPS or FedEx to WDW. Has anyone from Canada done this? I wasn't sure if there would be problems with customs.
Thanks for any info.

You would be better off ordering from some of the many US based websites that ship stuff to a US address..

Sites like : wegoshop.com and gardengrocer.com

Isn't half the treat of a vacation not having to think about groceries and meal planning?:confused3

You can't ship ANY meat products, including canned meats from the Canada to the US. You can't ship any fresh fruits or veggies into the state of Florida.

I would just use a local shopping service.

With all due respect,I can't for the life of me figure out who would want to do this and why ?:goodvibes

People do this for all kinds of reasons.. not the least of which is when you have a child in diapers.. shipping all the baby-crap ahead of you.. saves luggage space and LUGGING..

Either way.. here's the basics on sending something to the resorts.

---
Don't ship it through the Post Office... Here is why... The US Post Office does NOT recognize Disney streets, any and all mail being sent to Disney through the US Post Office will go to the PO Box (regardless of how you address it) as the post office does not deliver to Disney directly. From the PO Box it is sorted into sections and then specific locations before it is delivered out to property. This can take quite a bit of time.

UPs, Fed Ex, DHL, any kind of courier service will deliver directly to the hotel. My suggestion would be to get the package ready and send it out about 7 days prior to your arrival (you can send it further out if you like they will hold it). If you give yourself enough time you can ship it ground service which is the cheapest.

As for who to address it to you would want to address it like this:

The name of the person who is the LEAD name on the reservation (may not be you, but it is easier to find that way)
C/O the hotel you are staying at/ Front Desk
The address of the hotel
And put HOLD for guest check in and the date (you can put the res # too if you want, but it is not really needed).

So it would look something like this

John Smith
C/O Disney's Wilderness Lodge Front Desk
Hold for guest arrival 4/02
901 Timberline Drive
Lake Buena Vista, Fl 32830

Here is a list of the resort address' (again this can ONLY be used for courier services, US Post office will not deliver to the property directly)

Really???

I have done DIsney dozens of times with babies and don't think this would have ever crossed my mind??:confused3

Thanks Canadian Guy --good info
we are going to order from garden-grocer this time
on average we each drink three bottles of water a day \

4 people x 3 bottles each = 12 bottles a day
12 bottles x 7 days = 84 bottles total needed for the trip .

Even if we cut it down to two cases 48 bottles it still works out to = 96.00.
Garden-grocer charges 6.99 for 24 which is 13.98 --saving 82.00.

Hugs Mel

Using one of the local US delivery companies...I can understand.....but from Canuck Land.??...ummm.
Like Minnie56 we have done WDW numerous times (with babies and or infants)and to carry or send supplies from home wouldn't make financial or logistical sense.

Just in the process of doing this.
Do you recommend Garden Grocer? Any problems with delivery?

Is their any specific reason why you want to ship groceries? We have used garden grocer (online grocery service that delivers to the resort) and had a really great experience with them.

I was only wondering if anyone has done this. This is the first year that we won't have a car and my kids usually eat breakfast in the room before we head out. For those who have ordered from Garden Grocer or wegoshop, any problems?

I can't speak for wego as we have not used them but we had zero problems with GG. You can even order things not listed like wine, beer etc!

Not only are you limited to what you are able to ship from Canada, did you think of the cost? Shipping anything from Canada costs a fortune.

We used Garden Grocer in October. Everything went smoothly. I had them deliver to our resort before we got there. Bell services brought up our order when we got to our room. We also ordered beer, so I had to fax a copy of my drivers licence showing my age, so they could deliver the order when I was not there. I would use them again.

No ,,this will be our first time trying garden grocer --I;ll post back after using them ,,,however alot of DVCers have used them with great success.

It sounds like ordering on-line from a US company is best.

I just wanted to add that shipping food from Canada to the US became much more complicated in the last few years.

I looked into sending a "care package" to a family member in the US two years ago. The paperwork is unbelievable!! For each commercially prepared item, you need to list each item and its ingredients on a special customs form.

I decided it wasn't worth it and used a US-based on-line company and it worked out fine.

just out of curiosity, why would you want to ship groceries for your stay? There are great grocery stores in the U.S. that are cheaper than at home.

We just got back a week ago. We used wegoshop.com to order some groceries. They were fantastic! About an hour before our scheduled delivery time I had to call and ask them to delay delivery by a half hour and they did with no problem. I do feel badly that I had to do that, but check in was delayed at the hotel and there was nothing we could do.

We ordered bottled water, beer, juice boxes, cream cheese, bagels, chips and fruit. There was no trouble getting any of this and it was all fresh. I would use them again.
