I've just read on one of the other boards about shipping goods back from WDW.

Is this an option that we UK guests could enjoy as it would really lighten the load of the old suitcases?

All the post were residents of the US and all enjoy using the shipping option as they don't have to pay the 6% Florida tax on all goods shipped out of the state.

I'm aware that there is a charge for VAT if over a certain amount once over here, but as you could already save 6% might make it feasible. :confused3

I'm not saying send everything but just those one off items.

Thanks in advance.

I think you might find yourselves liable to import tax. I'm not an expert but I think I've seen a similar thread to this recently. I'm sure someone will be along soon to give you more expert advice.

I guess you'd have to factor in postage as well?? More pricey to ship to the UK than within the US. I'm probably stating the obvious here, sorry :)

I would tread very carefully here. I know it is not quite the same but I ordered 2 fleeces totalling about £60 from a US website. I had to pay customs on the price of the goods and on the postage!!! which came to about £34. The postman said to me that anything costing more than £18 from USA is liable to get picked up. Luckily the fleeces were unavailable here and still worked out at a reasonable price for what they were but I would not chance it again!

I had a parcel delivered from Disneydirect recently.
The carrier was DHL (?) and, when I picked it up from the depot, I expected to have to pay some thing to customs.
It just cost me about £18 delivery for a load of KimPossible DD was desperate for and couldn't buy over here.
The savings far outweighed the postage cost (there was a sale and an extra 20% off code I found on DIS) and there was nothing else to pay

The customs bill from DHL arrives about 2 weeks after your parcel :rotfl:

If the value is over £18 then you pay approx 20-25% tax on everything including DHL's 'estimated' shipping costs which usually work out to about double what you've actually paid, then an adjustment to take into account the 6% local tax that you didn't pay, plus 17.5 % VAT on top of that ! Unfortunately DisneyDirect don't use the correct customs commodity codes to differentiate between the different levels of import duty (or VATless kids' clothes

) and trying to get the correct codes from C&E is like trying to get blood out of a stone!

You have to be very careful about what you order as I've found ot to my cost as there is some sort of monthly tit-for-tat increasing of import duty for items from the USA due to them giving US companies some sort of subsidies (I think)

If you post it yourself then think very carefully what you put on the customs declaration form and the chances of it being inspected.

Oh well, we still got some great stuff :sunny:
It's 6 weeks since we got the parcel so you never know :p

Lucky you :cool1:

I've had a customs bill every time - adds about 50% onto the cost :guilty:

No doubt one will appear, I'm not that lucky

Here's a link for anyone interested in exactly what is payable to the Inland Revenue when you get caught for import duty. I always thought the postal costs werent included, but unless its marked as a gift, unfortunately they are !

Ive only been stung a few times, the worst being a few years ago when I bought a gameboy advance re-programable cartridge sytem for £120 (they had only just come out then, and of course they are half that price now) from lik-sang in hong kong, and I was hit by about another £30.

I have never sent anything back from wdw, but I often get things sent over from the US. Sometimes I pay import duty and other times I dont pay it...
I once asked one why this was to someone.. and they said that customs opens one in three randomly, and others if they look like they need import tax to pay on them.

I have got away with it a few times, but other times I have really been stung!

The worst time was went I returned something that was faulty and when It was sent back to me I paid import on it - about £10-- but the carrier also charged me £15 or something.. it was mad! The item was a replacement I had already paid for!!!!
