if you buy in the parks, can you arrange for things to be shipped home? Does it make more sense to collect gifts together and ship one package and if so can this be done at the resort?

I love shipping items back home. :Pinkbounc

I usually "stake out" all the things I want" and purchase all of what I can at one place. If you ship items home, you do not pay any tax! Whohoo! :cheer2: But whatever you purchase at the parks and take home with you, you do pay tax. So oftentimes the shipping cost can be offset by not paying the taxes on the items.

Also, I get my items about a week or so after WDW. It is such a blast getting my Disney packages delivered -- it's such a fun surprise remembering what all you got!

Also, they pack the items so well -- I would much rather them do this than me attempt to pack breakable items, or items that would easily get crushed.

But yes, try to get everything you can at one location, or at least as much as you can at one shop. This will keep you from paying several shipping costs. :flower:

disneyaggie is spot on.

My very lucky DS5 has a whole lot of monorail toys for Christmas. We had a lot of Disney reward points to spend, and money from family, so I bought pretty much all the different things they had. I don't know if you have seen it, but the boxes the resort models, and the castle come in are huge, really huge. It cost me $15.95 to send home. Which was offset by the fact the tax was around that mark anyway. Absolute bargain! I have sent scrap-booking stuff home too, as that can be pretty heavy too, I think that was around the same, again offset by the fact that I didn't have to pay tax, so shipping was still cheap. We just could not have bought the monorail stuff home, no airline baggage allowance is that generous, and it would not have fitted in the trunk of the car, so it was really worth it. It took about 10 days to get here.

Bottom line if you are spending a fair bit, or have bulky items it's worth it. Obviously if you are only spending say $50, a shipping charge of $15 might seem a lot. It can be done at check out at pretty much all the retail stores and at the resort shops too, just tell them when you get to the counter.

Shipping back home is great!

We purchased ALOT in the parks, had the packages sent back to our resort and then shipped everything home. It is much better to do this rather than ship individual items at the time of purchase.

Be aware though our package took 3 weeks to make it to us at home! -- We filled out the forms on December 11th at our resort and we got the package the first week of Janurary! It was during the busy Christmas shipping period though so that probably had something to do with it and of course some of the items we shipped were Christmas presents!

When you ship from your resort, they give you a sheet to fill out. You have to enter a description of each item and it's price. (Like "Mickey mug $15") then add up the cost of everything you are shipping and that is how they figure your shipping cost. I thought it was well worth it for sure. Our suitcases were very close to overweight on the way back as it was, can't imagine what we would have done if we hadn't shipped most of our stuff home.

I agree with the previous posters about shipping directly from the store you make the purchase at. Why pay tax & shipping costs? Plus, they really do pack things well. And, if something is broken, they replace or refund (if replacement isn't available - as with my Stitch Halloween Candy Dish  ). Did this with all of the Christmas Ornaments I purchased at Christmas store in DTD and with EVERYTHING I purchased at World of Disney in DTD. LOVE THIS!!!

One question - it's kinda related. I'm kicking myself in the butt cuz I didn't buy a couple things on vacation last week. My sister said she has called there after she came back home and they allowed her to buy a few things - then shipped them out. Has anyone done this? And if so, what do I need to do or who do I need to call?

Yep -- I call Disney Merchandising at 1-407-363-6200 and give them the best discription I can. They will mail it right to your home! Whopee! :Pinkbounc

And, if I recall right, you only pay for shipping -- no tax. Double Whopee! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We usually try to buy as much as possible at the World of Disney store in DTD and then ship a big package home. We've also had things shipped from the store at the exit to the animation attraction in the Studios and the Christmas store at DTD. Never had any problems with damaged goods. Some friends of ours did have a problem with something breaking during shipping and I recall that Disney was extremely good about replacing the item. Especially if we are buying a larger bulky item, such as a monorail piece, or houses for the christmas village, we'll ship them home. It's just too much hassle to try and carry it home ourselves. As others have mentioned, our items usually arrive in about 10 days. Once when we bought something at the beginning of our trip, the package even got home before we did! It's a good thing the UPS driver knows to drop packages for us at our business across the street from our home. ::MinnieMo

Bad? Um..yeah. Most likely worse. Filled the three of our suitcases up then made about three of the people traveling with us fill their bags up!! They're still laughing!
