Shipping boxes ahead to resort - a few questions??

I shipped 2 boxes that weighed 30# - I included cans of pop, Champagne, Vodka... maybe beer and wine... as well as glasses, glow sticks, etc... I also shipped a folding cooler I bought at Sam's Club (rolling one with a handle) That way at Pop I kept ice (no fridge) and when it was time for home, I put all the stuff in the cooler and our suitcases and no need to ship anything home...

It cost me $30 UPS ground - I shipped to Pop, no problem - no extra expense this was end of Sept -

This is just a thought but it may work if your renting a car. You could find out if there is a local ups store and have it shipped there for you to pick it up with them. I doubt they'd charge you for storage fee. Honestl Im torn now because Im wondering if por would consider grocery delivery same as package holding I think Im going to call them to find out since I was planning to have grocery delivery for toiletries and some beverages.

We are not renting a car, so that wouldn't work for us.... I've decided that I will ship some things ahead - I'm a heavy packer so I'll ship a few bulky clothing items as well as beverages, breakfast items, autograph books, ect...

Also planning on taking advice from mistygapa. I'm going to get together a special box to ship for DF to pick up upon arrival. I shall not disclose it's contents however - that info is strictly for DF ;) Thanks so much for the idea!!!

We just got back from AKL on November 7th and we shipped a 32 pound box to the resort with most of our luggage and food (we were not on the dining plan). It arrived on a Monday. We arrived on a Wednesday. There was no charge for them to hold our package. At the end of our stay we used the same box and shipped everything back home. They did charge a few dollars more (the box weighed the same with sovies in it). But that was fine with us. It was so nice not to have luggage that ended up in another country for once. Hope this helps.

It COULD have cost more because you were having it shipped home to a 'non commercial' address. IIRC, and assuming you used UPS or maybe even FEDEX I think they charge slightly more for residential then commercial. Or it couldve just been a 'fee' for doing it :)

Has anyone packed carefully and shipped their electronics down? Like cameras and stuff? I'm going to take mine but going thru security with all these gadgets just makes me tense up just thinking about it..

If this is just the first of many visits to WDW, you might want to consider a new service called Owner's Locker that allows you to store personal items in Orlando rather than shipping things back and forth or throwing stuff away when you leave.

Owner's Locker provides you with a container in which you store your items; picks it up from your resort when you leave, stores it in a climate controlled warehouse and then has it waiting for you at your resort when you return.

We're a new company and a proud sponsor on The DIS--there's a link at the top of the page. There's been lots of discussion on the DVC forums but we're finding that there are more regular resort visitors who are becoming Members.

DF and I will be honeymooning 1/6-1/13 and are considering shipping a few things on down to our resort before we arrive. Can anyone tell me how this works please?? We are staying at AKL. What info would need to be on the package, how far in advance should I ship it, how do we get the package once we arrive?? Any info would help!

Congratulations:cheer2: We always ship FedEx 2 day to our resort. Never ever us USPS. UPS is another good shipping company as well. If you are going to us ground service than I would ship at least 1 1/2 weeks before you are do to arrive. Better it get there early than late. You will need to send the package addressed to your resort and their address and Attn: your name and your arrival date. When you get to your hotel, tell the CM that is checking you in that you had a package shipped and they will have it sent to your room. We have never been charged by the resort for our package.

Remember you can get water shipped from Staples.com.........

We have never shipped our electronics. We take them with us on the plane all the time. We normally have the lap top, digital camera, PSP (games) and portable DVD player (movies) with us at all times. I think if you pack them really well, than shipping should be okay and it is insured.

If I may ask, who did you ship with, and how much did it cost? I ask because I'm considering shipping all of our luggage, apart from carry-ons, to the AKL for our stay there next May. But then I also wonder how necessary that'll actually be, since we're flying nonstop, via AirTran, out of Dayton. (Gee, can you tell that this will be my very first flight, ever, and I'm just a little paranoid? )

KJ Luvs pluto how did you ship the package back ? did concierge take and charge your room? I would love to know since we always go home with more than we came with.lol
