shipping a box ahead to ship

Ok so i am going to follow the directions listed here to ship a package to the ship. The question is, how detailed does the packing list have to be? i.e.: 12 aa batteries, press on nails, etc. or can i just put FE gifts and put the big items not every tiny detail down to the number of batteries and straws.. has anyone had experience with this recently? how early ahead of time did you send? i was thinking next week at the latest to make sure it gets there in time...
