I've read that you can ship a box ahead of time. My son will be 13 months during our cruise and I was thinking of mailing a box. I was thinking of putting diapers and wipes. I know you can ship food, but could I include powdered formula? What other types of things do most people ship ahead of time?

No food can be shipped ahead -- that includes baby food or formula. If you will be arriving a day or so early, you could ship to your hotel/resort. Any food items must be pre-packaged, unopened, non-perishable. Many people have also found it easy to ship diapers and wipes to a pre-cruise hotel, then drop it with checked luggage at the port. Some people ship fish extender gifts. I haven't shipped items, but I recommend keeping it to items you would use up and not need to bring home, as it can be a challenge to find options for shipping home post-cruise.

Enjoy your cruise!

what address to you ship items too
To Port Canaveral? This is from the FAQ sticky:
Many people find with the airlines restricting the amount of luggage you can have it is easier and cheaper to send a box of your items to the cruise ship. It is a great way to save room and weight in your luggage when you ship a box containing your Pirate costumes, diapers and baby supplies, snorkel gear, beach toys, etc. Before you ship anything, please be aware of the guidelines below.

Courtesy of the DIS Cruise Board

  • One box per stateroom, no exceptions.
  • The package must have the guest's full name, ship, sailing date, stateroom number or GTY if you have not been assigned a stateroom number.
  • The package also must have a packing slip attached to the outside of the box that details the contents of the package. For prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient. Your list may or may not be read but it must have one. Write packing slip on the outside of the envelope.
  • NO FOODS/DRINKS OF ANY KIND, LIQUOR OF ANY KIND, FIREARMS, ETC. Items that cannot be shipped to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse and delivered to the ship include: food products (any and all food products including baby food/formula), beverages (liquor, water, etc.), chemicals, and luggage. These items will not be accepted at the warehouse and will be returned.
  • The required size of the cartons you are shipping down have to be about the size of a record storage box 12 inches on a side and should not weigh more than 20 pounds.
Address your package to:

Disney Cruise Line Warehouse
Guest Name/Stateroom # (GTY, if you don't know what your room number is)
8633 Transport Drive
Orlando, FL 32832

Phone: 407-566-8196

In the bottom left corner of the top of the package put the following information:

ATTN: Housekeeping
  • Name
  • Sail Date
  • Ship
  • Stateroom Number
  • Packing slip
Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00 PM for the 7-Night Cruise on the Disney Magic. (Saturday)

Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00 PM for the 4-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder. (Sunday)

Packages must arrive by Wednesday by 3:00 PM for the 3-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Thursday)

If your box is hit on by the screening dog or chosen for additional screening they will open the list and the box and look through it. They will close it back up and provided nothing forbidden is in it, then it will be in your room as usual after boarding. These boxes will be coming on the ship with the crew mail among other things so they may be in the staterooms later than the rest of your luggage.

Has anyone sent a package to DCL, but sailing out of Miami. If so, what was your experience?

I knew someone would ask, so I saved this:
From @wendylady30 (9/29/15): You are not allowed to send any type of food product or beverages. No chemicals or baby formula or baby food. The box has to be at the port by 3PM the day before you sail and can't be there more than 2 weeks in advance. You cannot ship items home from the ship because of customs. The box needs to be smaller than 12x12x12. An itemized packing list must be on the box. The address and info for the box are:

Land & Sea Transport Inc
c/o ship name, guest name, stateroom number, sail date
2541 SW 27 Ave
Miami, FL 33133
Phone: 305-345-8307

Thank you PrincessShmoo! Did you ship to the port? If so, how was your experience?

We have shipped a box on last six cruises without any issues, we always get some sand toys and send them down and put the pirate night costumes. You can buy sand toys on Castaway but kids think it's fun sending down beforehand.

Did you send anything to Miami?

In regards to the Port of Miami. I gave them a call regarding what details they want on the packing slip and was told they really like to deal with small packages or mail for crew members only. He didn't say he wouldn't accept my small package though. I think I will just put my extras in my carry on suitcase or ship to my hotel. The hotel that I'm staying at does not charge extra to have items shipped there.

I have sent to Port Canaveral. I was on a 7 day Magic. The package was in my room before my luggage. I used 3 packing slips. 1 for me, 2 inside the package, 3 taped outside protected by plastic in Ziplock.

My packing list showed a list of what I had inside and a photo of what it looks like just before I closed it. This I think helped because if they X-ray then it the photo would match your picture and it would move faster along without any problems.

I sent more than 2 weeks in advance because you just can't trust the postal system. My box was an inch larger than recommended but not more than two inches. It did look like the box had been slightly crunched but I had a full box so it was hard to crunch. I did not put in liquid but did send glue sticks.

Can we still send a box? I thought I read somewhere you were not allowed to do this anymore? We have a cruise May 2019.
If we can can we ship spray sunscreen?

No. You may not ship to the ship. You may ship to a hotel before and carry on any permitted beverages or baby food - not checked luggage, what you carry on.

This thread originated in 2016. Since then the rules have changed and you cannot ship a box of any kind ahead of time to the port. I always pack a bathing suit/beach bag with plenty of sunscreen, aloe, bathing suits and flip flops. Carry it on embarkation day in case anyone wants to swim and comes in handy for beach port adventures as well.

Bumping this thread to covid times - does anyone know if this is can still be done? I can't find it on the website and want to avoid taking up DCL's time to take my call.
