Ship crowds on Port Days--recent Fantasy report.

Just got off the Fantasy on Saturday. We stayed onboard all port days and I thought it interesting that the ship was least crowded on CC day, next least crowded Cozumel, then GRand Cayman, then most crowded on Falmouth Day.

I read nothing into it nor offer any reasons--it's just the way it was.

And weather was fine all 4 days.

That has been my experience on that itinerary also. It is what I'd expect based on popularity of those ports.

We're not beach people. And we've gotten off before at the other 3 stops and now nothing of interest to see.

Pretty empty. We had the adult pool and hot tub all to ourselves!!! And lunch as well!! And no fear of getting whacked in the head by a shuffle board stick while walking Deck 4!!!

It would have been even more empty except that it was very windy and many of the beach activities had been canceled.

We simply like the ship and just plain relaxing!!! We do 3 or 4 tastings, see all the shows, etc etc.

Next trip we'll do the E Caribbean tho--

Sometimes things are not about the itinerary, but about timing or the ship. Being on a beautiful ship for 7 nights might be enough of a vacation for some people. And I am sure that on a Disney ship there is enough to do and see that make for a great vacation.

I am a beach person, but not an ocean person. I am imagining the greatness of this. Drink in hand, quiet and empty pools, glorious.

I am there on that too. We have been to those ports a few times and at this point we just enjoy the quiet of the ship. It is really nice to have the pool and Aquaduck with hardly anyone around. IF we leave the ship it is to get some souvies for friends but it is not a priority anymore.
We have done a couple of excursions in each of the ports you mentioned and honestly enjoyed those we did in Jamaica most. lol When we go back, we will definitely book something there but not in Cozumel or the Caymans again.
Glad you enjoyed the quiet! We did too on our last trip out in September.

Is that a fear you have?

You bet--or getting my eye put out by some kid swinging the stick like a bat!! These kids have no clue what game they are playing, keeping score, etc--only how hard they can hit the disc and how far they can send it flying!!

Seen several joggers already hit with the sticks and one who actually fell after stepping on a disc some kid had sent flying across the deck.

We don't get off the boat in St. Thomas or Sint Maarten. We only get off the boat in CC for about an hour unless we have a cabana. I don't expect to go ashore on Grand Cayman in a few weeks and I'll only go ashore for a little while in Falmouth. I'm only going ashore in Cozumel to go to Cervezaria Internacionale and the grocery store across the street from it. I cruise on the Fantasy because I love the Fantasy and its crew. I cruise because I'm staying in a great big floating resort. When I go to bed at night and wake up the next morning my resort has moved magically to a new place with new scenery. I've said it several times and I'll say it again: If the boat went to sea and did circles in the ocean for 7 days and then returned to port I'd be just fine with that.

We have also done this before as well. We have repeated this itinerary a few times now mainly because we love to cruise AND because the ports Disney is offering sailing from Port Canaveral (we live in Orlando so it just makes sense to leave from here) have been the same for the past 2 years. Cruising Disney is our ideal vacation where we can truly get away from work, school, phones and electronics and be together. Whether off the ship or on...that is our goal.

I agree. Falmouth was just like a Sea Day on our sailing!
We didn't expect that. Although now in hindsight, we should have, since we stayed in board as well, because frankly, the choice of excursions is very limited for kids under age 5.

I LOVED the ship and really wanted to have more time on it, but having never been to any of those ports before, I couldn't bring myself to skip any of the excursions we had selected. Even in retrospect, I can't pick a port that I wish I has skipped. As we cruise more often, I'm sure we'll get off less and less!

I have no doubt you will do this and the more you return to ports you will be less inclined to get off the ship. We always did excursions the first time or two that we went to a new port...but after awhile, you just want to enjoy being relaxed and at a slower pace.

FWIW, I've done two excursions in my life, both in Alaska back in May/June. While both were fine, and we enjoyed ourselves, I don't really care if I do another one ever again. I don't like being in big groups plunked on a bus and I don't like being bound to a schedule. I'm much more of a freestyler when it comes to exploring.

You don't have to get on a bus with a large group in order to leave the ship at port.
