So I'm in the 4th week of couch to 5k, and in my second time of running for four minutes straight I have to stop because of extreme pain in side of my leg towards the back. It felt like a major cramp. It was in both legs, but mainly my left. I had to stop running and could hardly walk home. It hurts everytime I walk. Does this sound like shin splints? How long does it last? I don't want to ruin all the training on this program I have done so far.

Not really. Shin splints are more located on the shin. Regardless, it sounds a lot like you may have a lower leg muscle issue working. Should this continue for a couple weeks, head to a doc for clearance. Hard tissue injuries are not uncommon that present themselves just like a shin splint or a deeper muscle issue. If you are cleared (like the author of the thread) from stress fracture, then get a PT script and work with them on your personal routine.

So apparantly it's not a shin splint but is a tendon issue. I'll be down for as long as it takes to heal. :worried:

Glad you went to the doctor. Are you on complete rest? Did they give you a time frame or anything?
