Shhhh! Don't tell the kids...

...but dh and I are headed to Disneyland the week they are at summer camp! We were going to take a cruise to Alaska, but we waited too long and the fares are sky high right now. We could wait until last minute, but then we might end up going nowhere!

So tomorrow I'm calling to get reservations at the Grand for just the two of us! And yes, we'll tell the kids, but they are NOT going to be happy. They love camp, but Disneyland??? That's a toss up.

Four weeks! I'm so excited!

My DH and I did the same thing earlier this month and it was wonderful! A new sense of freedom, no strollers, romantic and fun! We also stayed at the Grand and if you tell them it's your anniversary(wink, wink) they bring up chocolate covered strawberries and put rose petals on your bed.

We also had a DD view and the violinist was playing right outside our window. AhHH....so romantic. I'm ready to go back!

LOL! It actually WILL be our 18th anniversary...two days after we leave! Good idea!

I had another "yay!" moment for this trip. How many times do you stand in line with the entire family and hear, "Party of two" when you get towards the front of the line? DH and I can be that party of two!

Oh you'll have a great time!! DBF and I went in Jan without the kids and I think we are going this weekend too, just the 2 of us, just for Sat/Sun. It's really neat to be that party of 2. lol It's hard at first tho, you'll want to keep saying there are 4 in your group for the first day or so. LOL

Ive done it, and see no wrong in it and why tell them? if there not going to be happy about it either tell them " big people have to have me time to " and or do not tell them, what they don't know can not upset them or cause you to make excuses Have a grea time!!

That is hysterical...I would have never let my parents live that one down as a kid - I wouldn't tell them, maybe wait till they are like 20 and then you can all laugh about it

Good for you! Disneyland is a whole different experience with out the kids. We went for our anniversary last year and it was a blast. So much so that we upgraded to APs and are going again for our 18th anniversary this year.

We live close enough to drive and are going to spend our 25 anniversary there. (We went on a cruise to the Caribbean already in April) Our youngest are 19 and 22 and this is the first time we are going alone. We will take them to WDW in September but looking forward to Disney alone

the wife and I did the Alaskan Cruise 2 years ago and it was great. We planned the same cruise this may and cancelled to go to DL in Feb. DL is just that much more important

We did a trip to DL this past Feb w/o the kids and I must tell you. It was a different type of trip. It was fun to experience the park and rides together. Something we had never been able to do with the boys being so young. But I think most of the time we spent remembering what we did with the boys on previous trips or thinking how much they would love this or that. So we came to the decision that we couldn't do that again until the boys are older. But I am glad that we did it. And they handled it remarkably well I must say.

So go and enjoy yourselves you deserve it. Happy early anniversary!

That is delightfully cruel.... I love it! If I had kids... I'd do it. I'm not a parent, but I can't imagine spending a huge chunk of my life without a little alone time.

You all crack me up! What a bunch of enablers!!

We're all booked: GC, DD view for July 27 through July 30. Booked our plane tickets too.

Our twins are 14 and our youngest is 12. We've never really taken a vacation without them.

Now we are debating an annual pass vs park hoppers. We'll be back in April for five more days when our twins march in a main street parade. We'll most likely be at the World over Christmas, but I don't think a Land annual will work there.

Any thoughts on an annual pass? We'd do two five-day trips in a year.

If you'll be back within a year do the AP!! It's very much worth it!! You just need to decide if you want a Deluxe or a Premium AP. We had Deluxe last year and worked around the blackout dates fine, but this year we needed Premiums because we had a lot of blacked out weekends we wanted to attend. We like the extra %% with the Premiums compared to the Deluxe tho.

We celebrated our anniversary at the Grand, and we just got back home today! We did not get chocolate covered strawberries but we did get the rose petals on our bed!

Four weeks until we go. As much as we love Disneyland, four weeks there would be overkill for us.

Whidby - adding to the enabling - get the AP. 5 day parkhopper's run around $200 (unless it's 5 for 3) and the Costco AP is $269 with a $50 gift card for DLR. This makes your AP $219. Totally worth the extra money - especially if you are going 2 times within a year. Just imagine not having to pay at least $179 for 4 tickets (2 tickets now, 2 tickets later). You will have saved yourself $281 dollars. My kind of savings.

We love going together - just DH and I - in fact we leave 3 weeks from today for his 50th b-day trip and the kids are NOT invited! We did go with them the end of May and are going again in Nov. so they are not suffering.

Are the Costco APs available everywhere or only in California?

As far as I know, they are only available in So. Cal. You can check where the Costco's are on their website and then call the individual stores. I know there is a store not far from DLR - but DH usually drives - so I can't remember the city's name. Sorry!
