So after months and months of planning the day we leave has arrived. AND IM STRESSED and excited. Now many of you know that traveling can be stressful enough, but throw in the fact that I have been planning this trip for nearly a year, DH has no clue that we are flying all the way across the country to celebrate his 30th birthday in style at the World, the fact that as of 8am on the day we leave I have not yet packed anything, and its all starting to get to me. The number of details and thoughts about whats left to do today (some useful some not) that are flying in and out of my head at Test Track speeds rival only the amount of information I had in my head the night before I took the California State Bar Exam. Well I passed that on the first try so this should be no problem right? (I am looking for an affirmation from you here nodding your head or a Yes out loud will do just fine).
So 5 minutes after DH is out the door at 6:30am I am up behind him pulling out clothes, shoes, suitcases, lists of things not to forget, lists of things still yet to do. Its crazy. Looking back I should have made a list reminding me this was supposed to be fun and to lighten up!! I have decided I may have been a bit too anal about everything - but you live and learn for the next time. (Oh wait did I say next time scratch that, no more surprises orchestrated by me its somebody elses turn).
Now DH thinks I am at work, so continually throughout the day I call my voicemail to make sure he didnt call me and want to talk. Believe me I had every basis covered to make sure this surprise didnt get blown at the 11th hour. By noon he hadnt called, I was done packing (make that overpacking), and I was out of the house just in case he came home early (in 3 years he has come home early maybe 2 times but the paranoia was setting in and I wasnt thinking rationally).
So I set off to finish up last minute shopping and putting together a box labeled CHRISTOPHERS 30TH BIRTHDAY SURVIVAL KIT. Inside contained all the Over the Hill paraphernalia I could find and a piece of paper that read Now that your turning 30, What are you going to do ? Beneath that I had placed the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World and a shirt we had made for each of us in the group. It was a 75 years with Mickey shirt from Disneyland. We had Chriss 30th Birthday Bash stitched on the front. This kit would reveal to him once we were at the airport just where we were going.
Now its 4pm (T-minus 3hours until we are all supposed to meet at the airport for the big surprise) I am ready, DM is ready, Dude is ready, and my accomplices in getting DH to the airport are ready. But is DH ready??
I was hiding out at DMs house waiting for DH to come home and get ready for what he thought was a night out for dinner with my cousin and her fiancé. They were coming to pick us up at 6pm. Dude and DM were heading to the airport in a separate car with all of our luggage. I figured I would come home a little early and say that I had left work early to get ready for dinner.
(Side note Blatantly lying to your spouse is wrong. UNLESS you are doing it to surprise them.)
I showed up at 5:15pm and no DH. I call him on the cell and find out he has stopped by a friends house to help them with a computer. The little voice inside my head screams at the top of her lungs Are you freakin kidding me, this was not part of the plan.
I calmly remind him that we are leaving for dinner at 6pm. He says, No problem, Ill be home in 20 minutes. My cousin and her fiancé arrive and still no DH. AHHHHHHH!! Doesnt he realize this surprise has been coordinated down to the last second and hes throwing off the timing!! I start to pace thinking all the hard work is going to go down the drain and I am going to have to tell him to get his butt home or we will miss our flight.
6:15pm and still no DH
