Heather, great photo!
Koh, I think Step makes a great point. We don't use the dining plan or free dining anymore. (But if we ever do, we wouldn't do a split stay.) Instead, we take the room-only discount and have one ticket that covers our entire trip (either AP or park-hopper.) When we have APs, we use TIW for dining discounts, which is really the best deal for us given our dining styles and preferences. And the room-only discount has always been a better discount for our family of five at deluxe resorts than free dining. Because we don't use the dining plan or book with free dining, I forget about the issues that come up during a split stay.
But with our current ticket/room-only discount situation, split stays are easy for us. We just pack up our stuff, hop in a cab early in the morning to our new resort and check in before rope drop. I actually like packing and organizing the stuff - I do a lot of organizing at the end of the day and early the next morning when we're just in one resort anyway. That's what we'll do in October. Take a cab from BC to CR at 7am, check in at CR and be ready to start our day at MK (9am opening.) In January, our park plans make it easier for us to just have bell services transfer our luggage. We'll leave Poly in the morning, spend half the day in MK, monorail to Epcot, spend the afternoon there and then check in at BWI in the late afternoon before dinner. Won't need our luggage until later that night, so not a problem if there is a delay with the bell services transfer.
How much of a hassle is it to switch resorts mid-trip? DS5 and DD16mo. How does it work? We'd be checking out and going to a park first thing in the morning most likely, then coming back around lunchtime to check into new resort. Will they take our bags? When would they normally get there?
