Friends! It’s time!

Welcome aboard as we sketch out our plans for our next Disney trip.
p827291321-4.jpg

[/B]Yes! Come along as we plan for another repeat June visit to WDW, staying once again at Copper Creek for 6 nights. For those who are new to our trip reports, be sure to check out our past ones including last year when we did a very similar stay and had a great time. You can also go all the way back to our first family visit, when our daughter was 3 years old. She'll be 15 for this year's trip, and has become quite the Disney Fan.
p574027545-2.jpg

Yeah she’s getting old.

So let's get through the introductions. I'm Paul, a now 45 year old Dad, Elevator Mechanic, car guy, and fixer of things.
p759242584-4.jpg

My favorite Disney movie is Cars, my favorite ride is Test Track (which will be a bit of a bummer this June, oh well), and my favorite place on earth is the Wilderness Lodge. I write my portions of the report in Blue.

I’m Melissa, I love cows and going to Disney.
p1067241137-4.jpg

I do office things for the Elevator Company and am currently the #1 shuttle for our kids and their activities.
My favorite rides are the People Mover and Living with the Land. My favorite Epcot festival is Festival of the Arts. I make my comments in Orange.

I do miss going in January for Festival of the Arts. For our longer time followers, our friends Jon and Brandy will be going to Disney in January and we are definitely slightly jealous. This also means we will miss having them with us this time, since they are not on board for a hot June trip. Our trip will be June 3 through 9th, conveniently ending on our 18th anniversary.

Yes, this year we fly home on our anniversary but I think it’ll be ok (subtle foreshadowing). We miss having our friends with us on our trip but we get that it’s hot. We’d for sure go a different time of year if we could but Allie is lots of smarts and taking tough classes so it just makes it harder for her to miss. This year she’s even trying out for the track team so that also throws a wrench into future trip planning if she continues to do that for the next three years.

That brings us to Allie, she is our daughter and the "she" in our trip reports.
p872298394-4.jpg

She is now 15 and a freshman in High School. She loves DIsney as much as any of us and would love to do September trips again, but missing school is not in the plan for the next few years. She loves getting to go any time of year though, but prefers hot weather at Disney to going in the winter.

Marshall is our son and he’s 9 now. He went on his first Disneyworld trip at 9 months old!
p576441360-4.jpg

He is homeschooled and we probably won’t be done with 3rd grade before we take our trip but we can take the week off. He says he doesn’t know what his favorite ride is but Slinky Dog is the best.

Yes he has grown up at Disney World, making a trip every year. He enjoys pin trading and figuring out how things actually work. He does not however believe that Space 220's elevator is real.

We’re staying in a one bedroom villa at Copper Creek again.
p87736886-4.jpg

It works out so nice to have a full kitchen and laundry in the room. Not to mention the king size bed. That’s pretty nice too.

Oh yes. We have been DVC owners at Copper Creek since 2017, which works out great with our love of the Lodge. We have yet to stay in a studio, and don't anticipate doing so soon, even if it means shorter trips or more time between them. The 6 day length works well for us with work, so we don't miss a single entire week. Someday we would like to get back up to longer trips, but that means more points and more time off work, thus inhibiting the ability to fund those points so here we are, settled in for 6 days in a one bedroom. We loved it last year and can't wait to do it again.
p1677129381-4.jpg

p1771005960-4.jpg

Having a full size fridge helps with breakfasts, snacks, and drinks in the room and having easy laundry keeps us from overpacking (which doesn’t much matter this year, more subtle foreshadowing) and we come home with clean clothes.

We really do love those rooms. We have had some great views, and request high floors near the lobby, which leads to the best views of Bay Lake and the inner courtyard.
p592139109-4.jpg

Side note, I undertook a project to figure out the room layout of each room at Copper Creek, so I know where the potential room locations are and somewhat obsessively think about our room options. Here is the link to the floorplan layout I compiled before it was released by Disney. https://www.disboards.com/threads/•...ns-owners-lovers-group•.3631019/post-62713494

While the only real differences are the view and the walk to transportation, it is interesting to have a different room each time to make each trip unique. Not that I would turn down the "bear face" room from two years ago though, that was amazing.
p1857730790-4.jpg

Obsessive is an understatement. When he gets the text with the room number he knows instantly what room we are going to have.

It is fun to know, although the other people on the airplane kind of look at me funny as we are taxiing to the gate. Yep it has happened.

While you’re doing your celebration dance.

Oh yes, that is the most important part... Anyway, welcome along as we figure out what we will do to make this trip fun and unique. We're glad that you're here and hope you all join in with us.

We were at the WL from Feb 2-6 this month and enjoyed some of the new things they had for the festival. The weather can be tricky, though.

We will be staying at POR from June 8-12th with our sisters. My husband is having major surgery in March and we aren't 100% sure that he will be ready to travel. But his sister was willing to book the trip anyway. We will probably have dinner in Disney Springs on June 8th. We enjoy going to DS from POR and it works out well to do it on our arrival day.
We'd for sure go a different time of year if we could but Allie is lots of smarts and taking tough classes so it just makes it harder for her to miss.
I think it is too hard to take kids out of high school. There really is too much going on. But once our kids went to college, we could work out a January trip because the winter break was so long.
We have yet to stay in a studio, and don't anticipate doing so soon, even if it means shorter trips or more time between them.
The CCV studios look very small. I won't stay in one until they replace the sofa bed with a Murphy bed. The one bedroom villa is just so very convenient.

Great floor plan, I've found it very helpful on our trips! We split between CCV or BRV and the Poly!

Thank you for the room guide! It's easier to use than Touring Plans, it's been very helpful!

I know, right? We have so much else going on but there’s always time for Disney. You replied almost immediately, were you waiting in suspense?

We were at the WL from Feb 2-6 this month and enjoyed some of the new things they had for the festival. The weather can be tricky, though.
February can be cold, we had some cold winter trips. It is so strange to be cold at Disney.

We enjoyed POR a lot. Hopefully your husband is doing great by then and enjoys it too.

I think it is too hard to take kids out of high school. There really is too much going on. But once our kids went to college, we could work out a January trip because the winter break was so long.
She’s so busy we can’t even get a dentist appointment scheduled right now, and now she’s on the track team so our weekends from now till the trip are pretty much booked.

The CCV studios look very small. I won't stay in one until they replace the sofa bed with a Murphy bed. The one bedroom villa is just so very convenient.
We would take one, but love having the extra space and especially the laundry. We are spoiled.

The best feeling is starting a new trip recap (or Pre-report!) with you guys! Can't wait to hear all about it!
Awww thanks so much. We love sharing the trips but it always surprises us that other people enjoy following along. We are glad you do though.

Ooooo! Here for this!!
Welcome back.

Hello again.

Yay!! Loved your last trip report, looking forward to following along for this trip! :)
The trip will have a lot of similarities, but some fun differences too. We hope you enjoy the planning side of it too.

Great floor plan, I've found it very helpful on our trips! We split between CCV or BRV and the Poly!

Thank you for the room guide! It's easier to use than Touring Plans, it's been very helpful!
Thanks! It was a fun project and was perfect for my obsessive compulsive side. As new CCV owners we wanted to know what rooms were where and it was a fun puzzle to solve. Melissa still thinks I’m nuts, and I probably am.

So whatcha wanna talk about in this first installment?

Oooh, good question. I guesss we can do it chronological order, and talk about the first big purchase we made for the trip.

Okay, we can get that out of the way. So, last trip we waited WAY too long (in our opinion) to book our flights. It ended up working out though as we flew first class.

We also discovered valet parking at LAX, which worked out to be the best transportation option yet for the home leg of the trip.
p901590348-4.jpg

With that success behind us, we knew we wanted to do it again, so we began searching for flights out of LAX at 11 months out. Also being spoiled last time, somehow we kept checking the option for first class.

Yeah somehow…

Look, we are frugal people generally, but, WOW the first class flight experience last year was so nice. It relieved stress and made the flight actually enjoyable.

With doing shorter trips, it is nice to have the travel days go easier, and upgrading the flights sure made that happen. So, while saving money however we can in many ways, we did price out first class options and they had a lot of appeal to all of us. Still, it would be a lot more, so we had to find some way to justify the extra and figured it could be part of the kids Christmas presents.

So we started looking at flights as soon as they were available. It worked out though because we found a great fare on United out of LAX.

These flights are at near ideal times, and are nonstops between LAX and Orlando so we won't have the Charlotte layover we had last year. We'll leave LAX at 10 AM and be in Orlando by 6PM, and yes we will be sitting in the front of the plane and can bring two checked bags for each of us. We are excited.

So excited. We surprised the kids on Christmas and they are really excited too.
p704706516-4.jpg

It won't be a 777 plane like last year but it will be nonstop and First Class, very cool.
p804737950-4.jpg

After booking the airfare the next thing was to book a car at MCO, and this time Alamo came through once again with an SUV for $417. Instead of the Jeep this time we are upgrading to a full size SUV, which will mean more room for luggage and a little bit nicer vehicle in general, even if it isn't quite as much fun.
p507783841-4.jpg

It's ok though, I still have the Jeep to enjoy at home.
p1569248159-4.jpg

At the end of last trip the kids and I teamed up against poor Paul to veto another Jeep. While Jeeps are fun and capable they are just not quite big enough and the AC isn’t as quick as I’d like it to be. So this year we’re switching it up and should have a ton of extra space and hopefully more cooling power.

Yes, that's ok. Now that the kids know about the flights we can all share the excitement and proceed with the trip planning. This led to our next purchase, and something we will get to do on this trip that we have never done at WDW, but you'll have to wait for the next update to read about that one.

Nonstop flights are the best. There are just too many things that can go wrong otherwise. And the travel is shorter. :)

Who knows, maybe you'll like having a full size SUV. :) You won't have as much trouble loading the car.

I am taking the United nonstop flight LAX - MCO in a few weeks! Leave about same times as yours. I had been hoping the early Delta flights would come down more but they never did. So United this time.

Yes, it makes the travel so much simpler to avoid having another leg to the flights.

Yeah, we love Melissa's Expedition at home, so having a big SUV on vacation will be really nice. Maybe we can do some more big shopping.

I dream of the day we can book first class. Our flights are short (2 hours air time) but having more space would be sooooo nice…
Don't forget the "free" checked bags. That helps make up for a little bit of the extra cost. Follow us for more great money saving tips like that... Really though we decided that we look forward to the trips more when we have more enjoyable travel days, and it eliminates the long travel days that we used to dread.

Delta is still our ultimate preference, but we would have had to pay over double what we paid for the United flights. We'll give United a shot and see how it compares to American last year.

Delta is my ultimate preference too. They have the most and best direct flights for the lax - mco route.

It is interesting how similar the Delta and United flight times often are. Delta seems to know they are worth some more though, oh well.

So, with the trip dates set and airfare purchased, we began to discuss how we would handle park tickets. This was a debate last year, when we wound up going with four days of park hoppers. It worked out nicely, but the cost was quite a bit more than the special one day per park tickets would have been.
p596207328-4.jpg

Since the trip last year we have been talking about if we could maybe do things a little differently for covering the parks, or even gasp, skipping a park entirely.
p791151267-4.jpg

Yes, we might skip a park, with all of the construction going on at Animal Kingdom it had us wondering if we could skip it entirely this next trip. Even though Dinoland has never been our favorite when there is major construction like that it does throw off the flow of the park. Both kids also said that they didn’t need to ride Expedition Everest either which has us thinking that if we don’t have park hopper tickets is it worth spending a day’s worth of admission for Animal Kingdom.

It also remains to be seen if we could go without park hoppers at WDW. It is just such a commitment to not be able to go to another park, no matter how close it is or how much you want to just pop in there. We did fine with one park per day at DLR, but at WDW it is a much bigger deal. Anyway, one of the options we started considering was using an after hours party to cover a park.
p303090363-4.jpg

It turns out that there’s a Hollywood Studios After Hours party during our trip.

We had actually been talking about how this might be perfect, and then the dates worked out, so it looked really compelling. We could likely hit our must do rides (and even a few others) during the party time and could take advantage of getting in the park a few hours before the party.
p471162412-4.jpg

Surprisingly, we have never done any extra party at WDW.

It would also be cooler because it’s at night and Hollywood Studios is a pretty hot park.

The party day is our first full day of our trip, so with HS that evening we could possibly do another park before that, if we want to use up a park ticket day. We could also do Disney Springs instead and save the park tickets for later.
p535184987-4.jpg

With the option of doing or skipping park hoppers, this set up a progresion of possible park ticket options, which to me called for a spreadsheet.
p100632797-4.jpg

Of course it did. All the spreadsheets.

In order of increasing cost, we could do 4 days of no park hoppers, three days of no park hoppers plus a party day, 3 days of park hoppers plus a party day, or go all out and do the party plus four days of park hoppers.

Yeah those are our options. The only thing that we firmly decided though is that we wanted to do the party.

Yep, that just was too good of an opportunity to pass up, so we ordered our party tickets! I justified the cost by saying that we still have middle of the road pricing options that we could do, and right now the most appealing of which is doing three days of park hoppers, which would let us add AK back to the rotation of park visit plans.

It also allows pop ins to Magic Kingdom which is nice because Wilderness Lodge is so close.

I think a plan is coming together, and if we are all fine with delaying our entrance into the parks we can do Disney Springs before the party and be ready to play all night. Should be fun.

It is definitely going to be fun! The question is whether or not we end up with park hoppers, I bet we do.

I think it's pretty likely, but we still have time to decide on that purchase.

I love the return of the spreadsheet. I love using them for Disney decision making, too. :)

Your first full day is a good time to go to the party. Your family will still be on California time. :)

My sister-in-law bought the $99 one park/four-day ticket for a couple trips. She didn't like having to use one day for AK instead of going to MK twice. Now she has an annual pass. :)

Yay, another TR! Anxious to follow along. Love non-stop fights - we book them whenever we can. Eliminates so many possibilities for trip drama. Never experienced first class - maybe some day. Cliff hanger on the next purchase!
