Thanks for those of you who informed me of the Sherbeth Road shortcut to Disney. We were staying at Indian Creek down Formosa Gdns Boulevarde (past Splendid China) and found that the 192 at this point seemed to be much busier - practically at a standstill occasionally - than last year. However the Sherbeth Road shortcut made our journey time to MK (the furthest Disney park) no longer than 15 minutes - to the car park at least! From the car park into MK itself took longer again of course and on the 4th July it took practically an hour to return to the car after the fireworks despite a fleet of buses reinforcing the increased Monorail and Ferry services.

Any way back to my main point - for anyone unaware of Sherbeth Road, I would certainly recommend it's use as an express route for getting in and out of Disney property.

Could someone post details of this shortcut again please,an idiots guide one though:(

I tried to use it to get to Animal Kingdom we were doing OK then got to car park looking place and in the details I had it wasn't clear which way to go then (perhaps it was supposed to be obvious but wasn't to me!) ,and I obviously went the wrong way and we got lost:confused: :jester:

OK Kazzie, I was hoping that someone else may have answered your query because quite honestly we did the same as you I think, when we went to AK. At the Disney end of Sherbeth Road we tried to go straight on at the T.lights and found ourselves in the employee's car park and delivery entrance. We finished up going back to the traffic lights, turning left and doing a U turn on the Osceola Parkway. This meant going some way beyond the proper entrance to AK before being able to turn, yet still I believe this to be quicker than the 192/World Drive route. Certainly for all the other parks and resorts, Sherbeth Road is an obvious advantage.
It does seem strange that there is no obvious and direct guest entrance from Sherbeth Road when it's clearly 200 yards across the road, so if anyone out there is aware of one PLEASE let Kazzie and myself know.

Perhaps I should have started a new thread with this question?

Okay, seeing as no-one else has volunteered here goes!!

If you are travelling from the western end of the 192 (especially from villas of of US27) then this route is accessed from Black Lake Rd off of the 192. It is one or two traffic signals from the huge Orange Lakes Resort and is clearly sign posted before the lights. You will need to make a left turn into Black Lake Road and it does have its own filter light. Follow Black Lake Road to its conclusion (about 1m). You will be at an intersection. There will be a Mcdonalds on your right and the Holiday Inn Maingate West ahead of you. Turn LEFT into Sherberth Rd. (If you are coming from EAST on the 192, look for the signal for Entry Point Rd / Sherberth Rd).

Sherberth road takes you past some Disney out buildings and there are sometimes small Disney markers out directing CMs into various areas....ignore these and carry on. There are a few nasty s bends so take care. The road ends in an intersection. DO NOT GO STRAIGHT AHEAD!! Turn left ONLY for Animal Kingdom LODGE not the park. RIGHT will take you to all the parks. Take the first immediate left turn (NOT SIGN POSTED and looks just like a U-turn) for Animal Kingdom. Procced another few hundred yards and you will see all the other theme parks sign posted.

Not QUITE sure how you can get lost on Sherberth Rd as it isnt very long and there are no turnings other than the Disney out buildings!!???

NOTE: If you are staying out on the US 27, you can bypass the whole eastern section of the 192 by taking exit 65 off of the I-4 (signed Gaylord Palms and Osceola Parkway). Follow the signs to Animal Kingdom Lodge and simply make the turn into Sherberth Rd right before the Lodge (this isnt signed from this direction, but if you end up at the gates to AKL (about 20 seconds away!), just turn round and do a right!!

Hope that helps....feel free to ask any specific questions or if anything isnt clear.

Allie.

PS. The reason this road isnt "publicised" by Disney, is that it is an "entry point" for Cast Members. You will see a lot of buses in some of the out buildings that transfer CMs around "the World". They certainly dont want this route becoming too popular with the masses or the CMs wouldnt get to work! Saying that, there is A LOT more traffic on it these days than in the past, so its getting more known!

Thanks from me too Allie. I felt that there must be a way into AK from Sherbeth Road other than "round the houses". One puzzle though. You say after turning left from Sherbeth Road towards AKL to take first immediate turn left. Is this correct as my "nose" suggests I would again be the wrong side of Osceola Parkway. Maybe it would be clear if I was driving it though. Thanks again.

NO! Only turn LEFT at the intersection for Animal Kingdom LODGE...the hotel NOT the park!!!!!!!! If you DO WANT the lodge then yes, turn left, and the Lodge is on the right hand side.

Where Sherberth Rd ends at a set of lights you MUST TURN RIGHT FOR EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE LODGE!!!!!!!!!!! For ANIMAL KINGDOM PARK turn right at the intersection as I explained then you will need to make a left turn pretty quickly to get on the approach rd for the Animal Kingdom parking lot. This is the first turn off which has no signal and no sign, so can be easily missed! Its easy to know you have missed it as you will see the parking lot come into view on your left side!!

If you want to PM me your e-mail addy I will send you a proper map which will be clearer!!

Allie.

DOH!!! Misread your description but now I'm pretty sure I know what you mean. And to think I must have driven past that left turn dozens of times in the last couple of weeks (having turned right from Sherbeth Road!!) without seeing it. Apologies for being a bit slow, and thanks for your patience and perseverance.

Another vote for Sherbeth Road !

We had it's benefits explained to us by the Holiday Inn and used it extensively over the last 3 weeks.

That opening for the AK parking lot is there but it's very easy to miss (unfortunately we only noticed it after we'd been to AK !).

Only downside is that it was quite quiet and dark at night so DW asked me to avoid using after dark.
