Heading down to Orlando in November and trying to decide between the two places. Anyone have any opinions about the two and how they compare? Going down with wife and daughter (1 year old)

Thanks! pirate:

I've been to both. They are both great resorts. We like Cypress harbor better but my family is larger then yours (DD 17, DS, 14, DD 6). There are many things for each of them to do at MCH. There is an activity center as well where all the kids hang out. The resort is nicely set up with great pools and a beautiful large pond. They all wanted to go back in 2007. That said, the villages is a very nice place as well. Smaller then MCH but that may be okay for you and you may prefer the smaller setup. There is a kiddie pool at MCH but the VV has a zero entry section of the main pool with fountains. Both resorts have a play ground. MCH just put in a small kids water park. What else can I tell you?

I haven't stayed in either, but while we were at HGVC in September we drove past VV a number of times and there is lots of construction going on there. I would prefer MCH for that reason alone. I have never heard anything but positives about the Marriott either, and it did look very beautiful when we drove by. It's on my list of places to try along with Marriott Horizons which is right by CH.

Jeff,

A great response. Exactly what I was looking for. I've read various reviews which generally have been great for both, but nothing too negative about either.

Is there parking close to the rooms?
Which resort has nicer landscaping?
Which resort has nicer villas?
Also, which resort is generally busier?
Is there internet availability - how much?

I like both, but am worried that the Vistana is not all non-smoking, and I don't want to be stuck in a smoking room (wife has allergies).

Oh, and for both that replied, how is the HGVC?

I agree with you about the non-smoking. As you know, Marriott just made that policy change a few months ago and it is a great idea. VV should be able to put you in a non-smoking room. You should call to confirm this. As for your other questions:

Is there parking close to the rooms? Yes, in both cases.

Which resort has nicer landscaping? tough one, I guess I would say the Marriott because it has been there since 1992 and the landscaping has grown in but VV was very beautiful as well.

Which resort has nicer villas? MCH has larger villas. They have been renovated recently. the last one we stayed at was very nice. They replaced everything except the hot tub and the sink unit in the bath which they should have done (the sink). VV is newer so it has a newer model hot tub and everything else is only a few years old. Units are very nice but smaller. If you go for a two bedroom you'll find more lockoffs at VV vs MCH has conventional two bedrooms.

Also, which resort is generally busier? Well, when we were at VV it was slower but that may have changed. MCH is a bigger place. Much busier but you can still find quiet places. They have a large deck next to the pond with lounge chairs and adults which just pull up a book and lie there all day. There is also a smaller pool (of 3) which is a quiet pool but I have seen kids there.

Is there internet availability - how much? I believe, Yes, at both, but you should call for current pricing.

Jeff

Thanks for the answers. You convinced me to choose the Cypress Harbour. I gather I'm getting decent rates at both - $169 / night with $30 daily on-site credit at the Cypress Harbour for a 2 bdrm villa and $105 / night for a one bedroom villa at Vistana Villas. I see that they are much more expensive during other 'peak' periods.

We enjoyed HGVC, but honestly, we didn't love it. I think part of the issue for us was being on the top floor (6), in a corner, with a very, very slow elevator and 2 small kids. The pool was lovely, and the 3 BR villa was great. We would stay there again if we got another sweet deal -- we paid $650 for 7 nights, no taxes, etc. Otherwise, I'd try MCH or Horizons if we weren't staying at DVC. The HGVC on Int'l Drive looked nice too, and I would prefer that location to the Sea World location.
