I realize this is not in the Orlando area, but we're combining our Disney vacation with a trip to the gulf coast and staying at the Sheraton Sand Key. I've seen some pictures of it, but never of the bathrooms or much of the rooms themselves. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the rooms and bathrooms or can tell me how they're set up, i.e., is the sink area inside the bathroom or outside? Thanks.

Although I don't have any pictures of the rooms, I can tell you that the hotel is extremely nice and clean. We have stayed there the past 2 years.

We most recently stayed there at the end of May this past year. Very nice and clean hotel with a very friendly and attentive staff.

ps shower and toilet are in one area. Sink is outside of shower area.

Thanks for the reply Glenn. I'm really looking forward to the beach portion of our vacation as we've never been to the gulf coast before. Any recommendations on what to do while we're there? Did you eat any meals at the hotel? If so, how was the food? We have a couple of reservations at other restaurants, Columbia and Berns, but wanted a few evenings of down time as well and would probably just grab something to eat at the hotel.

Just one, but she's not really a kid any more. She's 16. So, too old for the kiddie stuff, but too young for the adult scene, such as clubs. Rough age to try to entertain!

Food-Food at the resort is OK. We usually get the buffet breakfast at Rusty's (in the hotel). The seclection is quite small for a buffet but the food is good. I would try to eat off the resort as much as possible. There are many great restaurants in the area. One of our favorites is Salt Rock Grill. It is a 10-15 minute drive from the hotel. They have a website you can check out (saltrockgrill.com)

Pier 60 might be something your daughter might enjoy for an evening. There are little stands set up every night where people sell little gifts. The picture in my signature is from Pier 60.

If all else fails, ask the hotel staff, they are very helpful.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll definitely look into them. I've never heard of Salt Rock Grill, so I'll check out that site.

Frenchy's on the north beach is good but Saltwater Cafe (one of the back roads near the roundabout) is where DH and I go for dinner on the beach. It hasn't changed in over 20 years-gotta' get the fish spread. If you're looking for touristy shops you could drive south to John's Pass-about 20-25 min depending upon traffic-some construction. There are plenty of tourist shops and quirky little gift shops. Some nice restaurants too.

Shepard's is pretty good. Just north over the bridge-on the beach.

The Sheraton is nice but be prepared for a bit of a walk to get down to the water. That particular stretch of beach is pretty wide! I can't tell you anything about the rooms though-never had a need to stay there!
