Are there any fun and neat places to eat nearby this hotel? Any buffets either? We are staying here the night before we check into POR. I love buffets... :dog2:

Pretty much every chain restaurant known to amn is within a 2 or 3 mile drive of the place. There is a Chevy's right down the street and a Golden Corral right next door (or is it a Ponderosa??) never ate there, but if that's your thing it is really close. The Chevy's and Uno's pizza are in the Crossraoads...just a couple of blocks down and there is a Joes Crab Shack across the street

Does anyone know which restaurants are within walking distance? I'll be staying at the Safari, but I won't be renting a car...

Thank you!

There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance...it is just that the hotel is on a really busy street, and I don't remember there being any sidewalks (but it is possible there are sidewalks and I forgot)...just be careful. It probably would be less expensive to rent a car at MCO for 1 day and return it to the Dolphin (Alamo or National), than to pay for transport from the airport to the hotel and then pay for a cab the next day from the Safari to Port Orleans....you might want to check it out.

There is a Pizza Hut in the hotel parking lot and you could easily walk to the Crossroads which has Chevy's (decent Tex-Mex), Uno's (Chicago style pizza, pretty good too), also McDonalds, Taco Bell and probably several other places , oh yeah...Jungle Jims is there too and the Golden Corral/Ponderosa (I can't remember which) is before you get to the Crossroads....there is also a Dunkin Donuts right across the street if you are into junk for breakfast (I am !!) They also have a restaurant inside the hotel...never did dinner there, but breakfast was pretty good.

I'm doing the same thing, smilingmouse...staying at the Sheraton Safari without a car. I've got five kids, 7-16, so I'm hoping there are some things within walking distance, that are SAFE to get to. It just isn't cost-effective for us to get a car for the length of time we're going to be there (2 weeks). It sounds like there is enough close by that I think we'll be okay.

CiCi's Pizza-$ 3.99 all you can eat pizza, pasta, salad and desserts. Can't beat it. It is right up the road. (in a little strip mall) Blestmom-with 5 kids, you have to check it out! ;)

We have stayed here in the past and walked to many of the restaurants around the hotel. We have always felt safe walking to the restaurants and to the CrossRoads shopping center. There is an Olive Garden directly across the street, TGI Fridays at the CrossRoads, Perkins about .25 mile down the street. Everything is so easy to get to if you don't mind walking. Actually, with all the traffic problems in this area I feel safer walking and probably get to where I am going much faster.

if you room has a refrigerator - I would get groceries through

www.wegoshop.com

for those nights when you don't want to get out.

you are next to the Renaissance right?

they have a very nice buffett in the hotel lobby.

It is not cheap.

just got back sunday from Sheraton Safari - had a great stay

restaurants w/ in walking distance would be: pizza hut, just a few steps from the lobby door - they offer a lunch buffet + all the time salad bar
on the opposite side of the hotel, just steps from the left hand side parking lot is Sizzler (which is what I'm guessing people were trying to remember - its not Golden Corral or Ponderosa). In the same shopping center off twards the back left of Sizzler is a Manhattan Bagel, NY Chinese Buffet, Steak & Shake, & Tony Romas.
across the street - 535 - (6 lane road, 3 in each direction) is Shoneys - decent breakfast buffet + they have dinner buffets too. Orlando Ale house is also across the way.

I'm trying to picture more restaurants I saw surrounding the hotel, maybe Olive Garden, Chilis, Black Angus, Dennys, Burger King then down the street further is Crossroads Shopping Center - TGI Fridays, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Pizzaria Uno.

Watchout for the hotel restaurant, if you eat at the restaurant they charge a 15% service charge on top of the prices of the menu then of course the waiter will expect another 15-20% tip. We went in & waited for 15 minutes at our table after being seated, no one even came over to us so we left. I was notthat impressed with the menu but it was pouring down rain that night & we wanted to stay close by so we ran across to Pizza hut, daughter got the spaghetti she was going to order at the hotel restaurant & I got wings, total was only 11 bux - we would have paid at least double that at the restaurant.

Also close, but not yet mentioned:
Macaroni Grill, Steak n Shake, Tony Roma's, Joe's Crabshack, Red Lobster, Hooter's

spicey: I think you're thinking of Sheraton World. Sheraton Safari is by Crossroads shopping center.

we stayed at cp. and loved the location but looking for somthing different, i remember being across from the crab shack and crossroads, hated jungle jims, but love the idea of pizza hut right there.. looking for seaworld shuttle?
