Anyone stay there?
What did you think?
We booked this hotel for two weeks over christmas after reading the reviews I'm a little apprehensive about our stay. I would love my fellow disers opinion instead of relying on trip advisors.
TIA

We stayed there. It's comfortable, not very big and nothing fancy but it is right outside of the entrance to Downtown Disney. The balconies are small but if you get a room facing WDW you can see the fireworks from Epcot. I think they had a small fridge in the room and a safe for your valuables. They have a pool with a water slide that is shaped like a giant snake, the kids slide out of its mouth and into the water. We didn't use the pool so I would call the front desk and ask if it is heated.

You are located right at the end of Palm Parkway so if you get on that road and keep going straight you can go to both Seaworld and Universal without having to use the Interstate. There are also tons of places to eat plus 2 grocery stores that you can walk to.

We stayed there for about $40/night through Priceline. If we won that hotel again I wouldn't hesitate to go there.

Our stay was for 2 adults, no children, with a car and a busy enough schedule that we mainly used the hotel for sleeping and relaxing between visits to other places. If you have any other questions I can ask my wife and also look for pictures of the place.

I found a thread we made earlier on this hotel here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2201581 If you read it you will see that folks are generally happy with the place.

We did a Christmas stay here a few years ago (also on Priceline) and were pleased. We were Sheraton Platinum at the time and I think that helped because we were upgraded to a junior suite on the Sheraton Preferred floor. It's not the same caliber as the Swan and Dolphin, but it's a solid 3-star. If you find anything lacking, just call the front desk and the Sheraton Promise will get you free breakfast at the least.

Pretty good location, just down the street from the Crossroads, close to DTD and a lot of eateries all around.

Here's link to a site I bookmarked awhile back that goes into a lot of detail about the hotel.

We have stayed here on multiple trips and been happy with it every time. It is certainly nothing compared to the Swan or Dolphin, but definitely nicer than a value IMO. The pool IS heated, and we swam the first week of January in 2009. Another great thing is that there are a lot of restaurants nearby that you can walk or drive to. Less than 1/2 mile away is Pizza Hut (right in the hotel parking lot), Dunkin Donuts, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Waffle House, Perkins, McDonalds, IHOP, etc.

They also have some baby alligators in the lobby inside tanks, so that is cool.

We typically stay there for 1 night on the front end of our vacations to save DVC points and we've always been pleased. It is also a category 2 on Starwood meaning it is only 3000 points on weekends. As others have said it is very close to DTD, Epcot and DHS. Also It is actually closer to MK than AKL.

Thanks for all the imput. It puts my mind to rest (a little).
They said they are undergoing a major refurb after the first of the year and assured us they would make our stay as pleasant as possible.

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari back in 2006 and personally I would never ever go back there again. We are used to staying at hotels supposedly within the same class such as Hiltons and Marriotts. This Sheraton was much worse then any of them. The rooms were ok, but some mold in the bathroom. It also smelled a little bit. The bed was SO SO uncomfortable! We made a fuss because we were told that it would be a sweet sleeper bed. We were told that it was a sweet sleeper bed. YEAH RIGHT! They would not even listen to our disappointment. I had to complain to the corporate office when we got home. They also said that all Sheraton's have sweet sleeper beds. Well, I sure didn't sleep sweetly at all. My back was so sore when we got home as was my hubby's. We have vowed to never go back there again. I hope that you have a better experience.

We love Sheraton Safari! We have stayed there twice, for two nights each time, before we checked into a 7 day condo rental. We signed up for Sheraton's Preferred Guest so we stayed on the designated floor and had an upgraded pool view. The beds were very, very comfortable with lots of extra pillows. We are not "hotel" people, we prefer at least 2 bdrms if the stay is longer than a couple of days. We just don't enjoy all sleeping in the same room (two snorers + two light sleepers does not = a good time!)

Having said that, Sheraton Safari is about the only hotel that I could see us spending an entire week. The breakfast buffet is also very good, and reasonably priced so take advantage of that. The food is fresh and plentiful.

Add to my previous post that I am Starwood Gold (dont travel much but charge over $30k a year on the Starwood AmEx so automatic status upgrade) and have been upgraded to a suite 2 of the 4 times we have stayed here. One of those times, i got two rooms for me and 3 friends who went down to FL for the Steelers game in Jacksonville (stayed in Orl, drove up to Jax for the game) and both rooms were upgraded to suites. My friends thought I was some kind of VIP.:lmao:

I guess my point is, that if you are not already a Starwood member, go to their website and sign up before your trip so you can start accumulating points. Starwood membership is free.
