Hi,

We are looking to book a hol to Florida in Agust 2009 and as we are paying largely in Tesco clubcard vouchers we need to book somewhere through Virgin.

If i manage to collect lots of bonus points we will try to stay on site for some of the time but if not we will be off site. My only previous trip was in a villa with extended family. This time there will be DH, me and two small children (they will be 4 and 19 months)

I am thinking that we might go for a Safari suite at the Sheraton Safari as it is within budget and being a suite DH and I won't have to creep around all evening when the kids are asleep.

Anyone stayed here and have any comments on the hotel - I have looked at trip advisor and the majority seem to say average to good but there are a few posts saying it was awful... any help gratefully received - a dissers opinion means a bit more to me than a random stranger on the net! LOL

Not stayed there but I read a lot of reviews and its not somewhere I would risk after what I have read. But it is a great location and some have no problems.
What other options do they have? Is there no way you could book a flydrive and book your own hotel? don't use Tesco so no idea how it works.

Hi Wayne,

The Tesco deals thing means you have to book accommodation for the duration of your stay. My other option is to book a multi centre and book a few nights in one of the virgin properties we would like to use and then the cheapest available accommodation for the rest of the time and just not use it. In which case I would book direct somewhere. Do you have any recommendations for good value suite accommodation in a reasonable location. As per my post above we really don't want a standard hotel room as we will spend quite a few evenings in with such young children.

Its a bit early for finding deals for next August yet. We usually go for 25 nights each August but best rates are from Jan-May.
Had a quick look at rates that are available Aug 09, Cypress Pointe Grandevillas is reasonable at LBV, 1 bed apartment about £30/night, 2 bedrooms £35/night.
For this August there were loads available if you have a car, Windsor Hills where we stayed at Easter was available for under £30/night for 2 bed condo.
I work on £20-25 for a std room or £25-35 for an aprtment/condo. Can usually pick something reasonable up for that.

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari back in 2005, and it was great. We got a great price, and found it really good value for money. The rooms were really nice, and spacious too. We are pretty fussy when it comes to hotels, and we weren't disappointed. It really did the job, and it was clean and the staff really friendly. It wasn't outstanding in anyway that I would stay there if the price wasn't right, but I would definitely go back if we got a good deal. Hope that helps a little :goodvibes

Thanks

It makes best sense economically to stay there for part of the trip but I wanted a few reviews from people who had stayed there. Obviously I have never met most of the Dis Board users but somehow your opinions carry more weight than random trip advisor reports (as i say mostly average to good on there)

If we go for it it will be for the first part of our trip so worst case scenario we won't like it much but will have a stay on property to look forward to after our cruise :)

Totally agree with that, i always take trip advisor reports with a punch of salt, after having stayed in hotels that have got poor reviews on their and found them myself to be excellent (Radisson Resort Orlando-Celebration springs to mind!!).

In fact me and my fiancée often make little "trip advisor complaint" quips to each other jokingly when on holiday in funny complainy voices ("the pool was far too busy" "we had to wait 10 minutes at reception" etc) :lmao:
