Hi, moved over to this hotel yesterday. Learned something I didn't know, and I wouldn't have booked if I had. They allow dogs. I was told only small dogs, but I did see a rather big one. First room we went into smelled of pee..that's how I found out. They said they aren't allowed to leave them, and if they bark they will be talked to. However, as much as I love dogs, I wouldn't have stayed here if I had known. Something about knowing a wet dog was on the bed, and all the other issues (such as possibility of fleas)...well, I wish they had told me.New room is much better. Maybe the limited housekeeping yesterday was the reason the smell wasn't caught. Oh, and they seem to have limited toilet paper here..Had to go to two housekeepers to get a roll LOL.

hope you got a wonderful rate.

It is in the AAA book as pet friendly.

Sorry you didn't know before hand.

what type of rate did you get and where?

Yuck! I would definitely cross a hotel off my list if they allowed dogs. Thanks for sharing the info.

We got it through travel zoo for $59..but the money wasn't the reason we stayed here..it was the glowing reports of Disers. I don't have AAA and hadn't been to their website, so the dogs (no cats or other pets) was a surprise.

While I have to agree...Yuck on the smell of pee in the room & crossing off the Sheraton ...but not due to the fact they allow dogs, instead they have bad housekeepers. Lowe's Universal Resorts allow pets & they are one of the cleanest hotels that I have ever stayed in. Even in the elevator, you cannot smell any pets.. it just depends on how the place is cleaned. Knowing that the Universal hotels allow them, would you cross them off? As I said, I agree about the Sheraton, but not the reasoning... it is the fact that they don't clean well.... I had not known they allowed dogs. I stayed there 2 years ago & at that time, I didn't think they did :confused3 maybe it is a new thing :confused3

I have to say, after having our room changed and spending another night here, that housekeeping has been great (fair is fair). We checked in Monday, the evening of the hurricane, and housekeeping was minimal (lack of staff). I think it was just missed, and I bet the owners never mentioned their dog went to the bathroom. If they went no further than the first bed to remmake and clean towels, and bathroom, etc, they may not of smelled it, and I have to give the benefit of the doubt. Our housekeeping has been subperb these past two days. The hall was shampooed today, our room smells fresh and even though we didn't put out the sign to change the sheets..they did. Our patio furniture was moved back to the bacony (put inside because of the hurricane) and the window washed. Although we are neat, everything was neatened even more.
I really just posted this more to let people who prefer to not hotel with dogs know they are here. I'm hoping that they change the bedspread between people with dogs and the rest of us.
Now that I have actually spent time here..although I would have passed if I knew in advance, I'm glad I didn't. We are enjoying this hotel. I do like the fresh smell that greats us in this room, evertime we come in. I also love the big safe..even my big laptop and all our other "valuables" fit easily.

I'm glad it sounds like the hotel is working out for you in the end. That is a great heads up though. I also didn't know they allowed dogs, and I've stayed there. I really enjoyed the Sheraton Safari and would never hesitate to stay there again.

I enjoyed the Sheraton Safari on our stay. But I didn't know they accepted dogs!! I didn't see one dog there??? I am allergic to dogs and I would be unhappy if I had an asthma attack because a dog had been in my room. But, as I said, we stayed there and didn't know about the dogs, so at least I can say it didn't impact our room.

:rotfl2: What planet are they on???? What do they think you KNOW those folks leave thier dogs... that's why they bought them and you can't take them to the parks.
