I am planning a vacation for my family with two adults and two kids who will be 4 and 2 at the time, along with my sister's family (two adults and one kid age 4) and our parents who will both be close to 60.

We have enough starwood points to stay free at the Sheraton resorts so that seems like the easy choice over other hotels, however I was hoping if any of you who have stayed there could give me any insight as to things to either look for or to avoid. Also any info on the distance to the park would be appreciated.

I have stayed many times at the Sheraton. However I stay at the one that looks like a castle. They have a dedicated shuttle that runs to the park back and forth all day. The kids love it. It is the Sheraton Anaheim I think. Most people on this site prefer that one. I highly recommend it. If we don't stay at the DLH we stay there.

We have stayed at both Sheratons... the Sheraton Anaheim and the Sheraton Park, on Starwood points. They are both really nice hotels I would say amongst the Good Neighbor group they are on the nicer side.

Between the two they both have pluses and minuses.

The Sheraton Park is within walking distance (maybe 3/4 of a mile) but it is a long walk, totally do able for adults, but harder on younger kids. The first time we stayed there with our kids, they were 7 and 11, and it was hard for the 7 year old to walk that distance coming home at night. Now you guys will probably have a stroller, so you may not have to worry about that.

We didn't bother with the ART, but there is a stop right by the hotel so that's always an option. On the plus side, because of the Starwood Points, we were able to upgrade to club level. It was really nice to be able to have breakfast in the club lounge every morning before heading off to the park. Another plus is since its more of a high rise you can get a pretty good park view, looking into DCA, depending on what side of the building you are on.

So then the next time we went, we decided to stay at the Sheraton Anaheim because they have their own dedicated shuttle. This worked out much better for the kids, except for in the evening sometimes, we would have to wait for a second shuttle if the first was full. The Sheraton Anaheim does not have a club level so you can't take advantage of that there, but the rooms are a lot bigger so you have more room to spread out.

Hope that helps!

I totally agree with your reivews of the pro and cons. As 2 adults, we used to stay at the Sheraton Anaheim (the "castle") but now stay at the Park Sheraton. We find the Park Sheraton very walkabel and my DH has had a knee replacement.

For the OP using SPG points, one option to be aware of is the "Nights & Flights" award. For 60,000 points you get 5 consecutive nights at either Sheraton, plus 50,000 miles in many airline programs. It works out to be 4,000 points per night. The only downside is that you can't use points to upgrade to Club level at the Park Sheraton until you arrive. Upon arrival, if available, its 1,000 points per night to upgrade. -- Suzanne
