Shellie Mae at DLP

I have heard that all the non usual DLP characters are being shipped back to the US next week. They were only flown over for this special event.

But Shellie May is going to be staying at DLP, apparently she is going to be soft launched in Paris and there will be some Shellie May merchandise available at DLP in time for Christmas.

Maybe Disney Parks are going to see what the response in Paris is like first before trying to launch her in the US.

This is just a rumour mind you, so only time will tell. Shellie May might just be put back into her box and launched at a later date, but from what I've been told the 'costume' is to stay in Paris.

I cant see her getting a good response after duffy failing there. It is a shame though.

I doubt Shellie May will be coming to DLP as she's a Tokyo exclusive - Duffy bombed as we just don't get the concept, and Shellie May will too as people still don't know who they are. Even after the D.S launch people don't understand what he represents.

Those teddy bears were made for that special event, and apperently only the people who got to see it where able to get those.

At times Duffy isn't very popular in Paris, but for some reason I think Shelly May might have more succes then Duffy himself.

Sorry, but i've just never 'got' the whole Duffy thing :confused3 Don't get me wrong, he is lovely and when my kids met him they said he was so cuddly :cloud9:

I think the mistake though was to put him in Town Square. Imagine your very first trip to a Disney park....full of anticipation and excitement to see the Disney you grew up with (or are growing up with ;) ) and the first character you see is a teddy bear? Surely this spot should be reserved for a universally recognisable Disney character...Mickey was the obvious choice. Now that he has his new home in Fantasyland they could maybe have used that as an opportunity to tell the Duffy story and have him in there at certain times of the day?

It is a shame, because all kids love a bear - but he is just not known by enough people.

That's nothing more than just another popular piece of internet tripe! :furious:

Well then why do we not see all these characters throughout the year at DLP? I think it's a valid point.

No it's not... They were only there for the 'group' which were there from 'invitation' from the prince

I thought this latest round of exclusive characters at DLP was for the whole Disney Dreamers party - ie a larger group than just the Prince and his entourage?

Elaine.... Yes, it was a larger group, but all to do with the prince still!!!

All that expense, for a bunch of adults..... Just think of all the young kids that wud love to experience those characters.....

And on that note, ill be quiet lol x

You are 100% correct, there seems to be many uninformed opinions sprinkled with a helping of sour grapes in this thread.

if the parks were affected during the normal park hours (ie rides/attactions/parts of the park closed/off limits etc to normal paying guests) for the Disney Dreamers event, then I can understand the point of view that others have expressed, that its not fair for families, especially with young children, who have paid to go to DLP, and yet don't get the opportunities and experiences that others do, when its right under their noses.

No sour grapes here, I understand that Disney is a business and some people have paid big bucks to do the Disney Dreamers experience. However, it should, in my opinion, have been done outside of normal park hours as far as possible, especially if it involved closing off parts of the park to the normal visiting guests.

I don't know about a prince, or any other group influencing characters at DLP - but I do know that after many visits over the years and hours and hours spent on this here DIS board, reading other peoples trip reports and highs/lows, that I've never seen those characters reported at DLP before :confused3 so I'm guessing that there must have been a reason, otherwise I'll forward to seeing them in July :goodvibes

it is true that the characters are not likely to be seen again as dlp have to pay to use them. the cost was covered for this private event and i have heard that guests had access to certain characters also the same as with marie from the aristocrats a while back.

it is usually the norm to have characters rarely seen out when the prince is there as he foots the bill. i have no issue with that and in fact is a plus to guests as they would not be there at all unless he was there.

i agree that i would have been put out if parts of the park were closed while i was there. was anyone there that was effected? it does seem like a shame if that happened.

Part of all Disney parks are closed off for corporate and private events, media events, and celebrities all around the world on a regular basis. I don't understand the magnitude of whining that goes on about this particular group - other than pure childishness and jealousy - but it's ridiculous and spiteful.

I understand the general public got to see these special characters, paid for by the private group, as well so perhaps one could be thankful instead of greedy.

I could throw a tantrum about not being able to sleep in the suite at Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom too, but instead, I keep praying for pixie dust ;)

The public often gets to see them, and yet even those who are lucky enough to be in the park at those times still never cease to complain about it. Such hypocrites, you are correct they should be thankful the characters have such a generous advocate.

That is just incorrect. These characters are not seen at DLP unless for the likes of this event.

Gosh theres a lot of hostility towards those who disagree with the Prince monopolising the park during normal operations and hours.

Of course you'd be annoyed and disheartened if being told areas were out of bounds or characters were not for your benefit. I just think its unfair that you come onto this board to lash out at people's opinions.

From what I heard yesturday it now appears that all the extra characters will be staying at DLP :). I wonder if they are going to be incorporated into a new theme for next year once the 20th Anniversary Celebrations have ended.

They would all look good on the Celebration Train what ever that becomes next year.

I hope you are right Jonjo. It would be amazing! Fingers crossed!

Oh Jon.... That wud b amazing.... Especially the up characters, as the film was such a hit....

And, the ppl that have appeared suddenly and calling everyone jealous...... Funny how uve only just appeared..... Were u there then????

And, I have been answering from my kids points.... To not be able to access parts, and to see characters they couldn't get at, wud have been awful as they wouldn't understand y not.... There are lots of children that wud b like this, and I know ppl who were there previously who had issues....

Oh, and celebs and corporate r shoved down our throats all the time, nor have I ever heard a report from sumone who was inconvenienced by it....

The important thing is, if Jon is right, that finally it might have a little use, and that everyone will benefit In The future from the extra characters....

So it's your opinion that day guests did not meet these characters? Not fact?

I would hate for facts to get in the way of your agenda. Because it was evident from all reports of last weeks events day guests were able to meet the characters.

And really, the children? Even if it was private, which it wasnt, I'm sure every 5 year old Parisian is devastated at not being able to meet Milo Thatch. Sometimes it's not about the kids.
