We stayed at the Shelburn on NYE. Leaving at noon and with the traffic we arrived around 4:15pm. We double parked in front of the hotel and the doorman took care of our valet parking, which was a reasonable $27.50.
The lobby area was decorated nicely and it had a tourist desk and an attached resturant. The check in personel were very professional. Check in is 3:00pm and we expected to get our suite right away. They however were not ready for us and we didn't get our suite keys until 6:30pm.
While we waited they suggested we wait in the bar/resturant. Which we did. After our 1st round we checked and the suite was not ready, they said go back to the bar and we'll come get you. Also, we'll pick up the tab for further drinks.
At 6:40 we entered our deluxe suite. It was 15G, 1 floor down from the top (16th). It had a large open dining and living room area with a desk, dining table for 4, pullout couch, 2 end tables, coffee table and a TV with stand. The furniture was nice but several pieces didn't match. Most had queen anne legs, several did not. The kitchen was narrow and galley style with a fridge, microwave, range, double sink and plenty of counter space.
The bath had a full tub/shower vanity and hairdryer.
The bedroom had a queen bed, nightstands, tv entertainment center and was good sized.
I felt that the suite was quite comfortable and was large enough for 2 people to live in full time. It had 2 heater units, so it was warm. We had no problems with hot water. The cable in the LR was out and we called prior to going out but they didn't show. I later realized it was disconnectet at the TV and hooked it up myself. I forgot shaving creme and they brought that right up.
The LR had one water spot on the ceiling and the wallpaper was loose, pulled away a little in the bath. I felt that the room was pretty but could use some work. It seemed used rather then having a fresh remodel.
The bedroom had a view of the top of the Empire State Building from the bed which was very neat. It also has a rooftop observation area which you've got to see.
Al in all it was nice, the location was good, and felt safe. Walking to times square was about 20 minutes. 37th and Lexington is pretty close to the things we wanted to do. A $5 cab ride for most. $10 for World Trade.
The only disappointment was by getting our room late, we never made it into times square to see the ball drop. Shelburne tried to help with this trough their concierge but we were unsuccessful.
I can recomend the Shelburne and we'll go again. 2 adults and a 16y/o....52 points. Expensive but I think it was worth it except the late check in spoiled our plans which makes the 54 points seem wasted.............spruce

Thanks for taking the time to give a detailed review of the property. It's a shame that the timing squashed your NYE plans. :(

Sounded like a terrific NYE getaway. Thanks for the report and sorry about the late check-in---it was nice they picked up the bar tab during the extra wait time.
