She doesn't think they're real!!

My DD (5) knows they aren't "real".....Ariel, and Mickey can't be everywhere all the time...they have to have some helpers. Now I'm pretty sure that DD gets that they are characters in a story....but Ariel is very much alive and real to her.....but she still understands that the Ariel she meets at the Grotto is not THE Ariel. Does that make sense? And you will probably be very surprised how she acts once she starts meeting them.

I was looking on youtube at some videos from WDW when my 4 year old DD walked buy and said "Mommy, she's dressed up like Ariel!" I was like "No sweetie, that IS Ariel." and she proceeded to tell me I was wrong, Ariel is pretend and that lady is just dressed up like her.

How do I convince her? Is our trip in May going to be ruined because she thinks they're all costumes and not REAL? I'm planning our first trip.

I wouldn't try to convince her. She seems content with knowing the truth and I don't think it will take away from the magic.

Heck how many of us adults screech in delight when we see Mickey or any of the characters? We all know their not the real characters, but we still get that excited feeling when we see them. I'm sure your DD will get the same feeling when she sees the characters in person.

I agree with what has been said. The excitement is to see the characters and sometimes I even forgot to stop and remember they aren't real! I bet your DD has a wonderful time whether or not she thinks they are real or not. It won't take anything away from her experience I am sure.

Well, they're not real. Just b/c your daughter knows they're not real doesn't make it any less magical for her.

I agree with everyone, I think once you are there the magic will take over. As a grown woman I still get excited seeing all of the characters.
