Shattered lens

I'm almost afraid to ask this question but does anyone know if the glass in a Nikon lens can be replaced? Mine accidentally got shattered at my sister's baby shower and I'd really hate to buy a whole new lens if I can just get one part replaced.

I don't think so...I broke a lens once and was told that it would be cheaper or about the same to get a refurbished lens. Of course to be fair this was the guy I bought the refurbished lens from.

Anything can be repaired. Its a matter of cost vs replacement. You didn't state what lens broke, just the front glass or is there other damage. I have some lenses that are expensive and others that are discontinued. If they were damaged I would highly consider having them repaired. I don't know your equipment, but all mine are insured. If you have a lot of gear that is something you may want to consider for the future. Here is an example, I broke one of my external flashes. The replacement cost is $225. When I send it in, if the repair estimate is less than that in any substantial way it will be repaired. If its totaled, then I will probably claim it on the insurance and get a new one.

I dropped my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 a few year back. The mount broke off. It cost $250 to fix. For me on that lens it was worth it.

If it shattered the front element there's a chance there is damage to other parts as well but you won't know until you send it in. What lens is it?

Just for the future... get insurance on your gear. It can help make things like this a lot less painful on your wallet.

Yes, I have a separate rider under the homeowners.

For my personal gear I have a policy with the same company that has my homeowners policy.
