The cartoon (by Sean Delonas) comes in the wake of yesterday's national news story about the cop who shot and killed a rampaging chimp in Connecticut. But the controversy in the comic comes from the dialogue between the two officers -- which reads, "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."
I do not like Sharpton but this is a nasty little cartoon IMOP. Referring to the president as a monkey or making fun of the tragedy which happened with the ape is both pretty tasteless.
I just wish there was a better mouth piece for this than Sharpton.

It was tastless and should have been thought through a bit more; but does anyone think that maybe the cartoonist was thinking (as many of us sometimes do) of "those monkeys (as in not being very bright) in Washington" instead of referring to the president's race?
This is not about race, but of course Sharpton will make it about race. Bush has been depicted as a monkey many times over in political cartoons. Sharpton better grow some thicker skin.
The only reason this is offensive is because a poor woman was mauled by a chimp. Otherwise it would be just the same old political satire that has been around forever.
I think the cartoon was done in poor taste and is inappropriate, but I also think Sharpton is always right there to keep things stirred up. I have no respect for him anyway...never have.
I agree 100%!
Actually, this cartoon wasn't even about Obama - he didn't write the "stimulus" bill. It's about the fact that the bill is so bad it could have been written by a monkey.

ITA.
Done in very bad taste![]()

Well of course not. Its all about race.![]()
IMO, it has nothing to do with race. The quote in Uncle Remus' post sums up the cartoon perfectly. Race has nothign to do with it.
Why does EVERYTHING come down to race now?
In order for someone to find this racist, he would have to be completely ignorant of:
1. The difference between the legislative and executive branches, and
2. The contents of the stimulus bill.
There are no less than 200 websites referring to George Bush as a chimp......where is the outrage from the left about that??????

And Al Sharpton is an idiot, no matter what he happens to be outraged over at any given time.
That cartoon's sickening. Sorry, there's clearly race involved. Remember the little "Obama Monkey" at the McCain ralley? It would be nice to think that race isn't involved but this is pretty blatant. I don't think it's funny either way... I think the whole gorilla incident was very sad for all involved and getting Obama involved just seems pointless.
