does anyone know if I can get a sharps box in our stateroom or do I need to bring one with me? I am from the UK so it would be better if they supplied one. The resort at WDW are doing this. Unless I bring one from there? I have a daily injection. It's not safe to place it in the trash for the mouskeepers. I don't want it in my lugguage to bring back. Tia

We have had sharps containers on all of our cruises. They have been a small red box in the bathroom under the sink. I am sure if there is not one in your stateroom you could request one from your stateroom host.

Great thank you that is a relief!

Just contact DCL, or have your TA do it if you used one, to have them note it on your reservation that you need one. That's all I've ever done and we've always had one when we got to the stateroom.

I am pretty sure there is one in each stateroom, I remember seeing one under the sink on the Magic last April but call and double check, I think it will be no problem

I know I saw one in our stateroom bathroom on our last two cruises so I believe they automatically have them in every stateroom. But if you don't have one in your stateroom on embarkation day, just ask your stateroom host and I'm sure he will have no trouble getting you one.

I think you have found the solution, and I'm glad DCL is prepped for these customer needs in the stateroom. Just to add a helpful hint that I used to use back when I needed to do injections when traveling - if there wasn't a sharps container readily available, I kept an empty glass beverage bottle close at hand - like a Snapple bottle, and secured the syringe in there until I could properly dispose of it. I want to say that sharps containers used to not be as easily found, and so I am glad things are improving now.

Time was you had to request one. Now I believe it's "standard" in all rooms. At least our last cruise (and maybe the one before) we had one in our bathroom, and we don't require it.

Sorry to hijack the thread. For those of you that use insulin and fly to the port, how are you keeping it refrigerated? I'm thinking ice packs to the port, but what about the flight back?

I have a pen that only has to stay cold until I use it the first time. After that I have 30 days before it is no good. I would think if you reach out to your stateroom attendant they can put them in a freezer in order for you to reuse them. Maybe bring it up when you see them and see how they can accommodate you.

My DH uses the FRIO. His pens can be room-temp once he's started them; they only need to be refrigerated before use. Be aware that any "ice pack" you use even for meds will count towards your 3-1-1 allowance unless it is completely frozen solid at the time you go through airport security. Depending on how far you live from the airport that may be possible, but hard to control for the return flight. Liquid or gel packs that have started to thaw may be required to be tossed. I've known people who travel with a bag of frozen peas as the "ice pack" because it remains in a solid state even after thawing. The FRIO helps keep the item(s) at the temp it was when put into the FRIO -- if you take something directly out of the fridge and put it in the FRIO it should stay fridge temp for at least a few hours up to a couple of days. There are various sizes/styles of FRIO -- you can check them out online.

I don't know what med you use but insulin should NEVER be frozen. CMs onboard will NOT take responsibility for a guest's medication. Onboard, the mini refrigerators should be fine for most medications requiring refrigeration; however as with any hotel or mini-fridge, be careful and check the temp regularly and keep items away from the very back where it may freeze.

Another option I've read in suggestions is a travel med cooler, which essentially is a tiny portable fridge. It gets plugged in once you arrive at your stateroom to maintain the temp. It wouldn't help for air travel, though.

Enjoy your cruise!

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was talking about refreezing the ice pack not the medication. I'm on Victoza. It only has to stay cold until the first use then I have 30 days to finish the pen.

Ah, thanks, I misunderstood. I don't believe CMs will freeze a guest's ice packs either.

Enjoy your cruise!

I'm not sure they will freeze them either but it's worth a shot. I'm sure Disney has something in place for people with medication.

I hope you have a good answer by now. I do recommend contacting specialservices@disneycruise.com. They did state a sharps container would be put in the room on Embarkation day, so it may not necessarily be standard. They will want your reservation # along with some other information. It was easy dealing with them and I do recommend emailing just to be sure. My son has a shot that has to be refrigerated or used within 14 days of coming to room temp, so I get it. We also made sure they knew it needed to be kept cold. I figure this way they have it on file if the fridge goes out in the room, we can make sure they understand it is urgent to fix it.
