Sharpies and Masking Tape for IDs?

As a parent and long-time camp counselor, the one thing you should ALWAYS know is what kind of shoes your child is wearing. A child's complete appearance can be changed in under 30 secs, except for the shoes. It is too difficult to change the shoes because feet are so different in sizes. Clothes are easy, shoes are another story. The temp tattoos are a great idea also. They take a great deal of scrubbing to get off. Gaining the attention of CM's is also good advice.

Have you ever tried to change a child's clothes in that amount of time? Or cut a child's hair, let alone dye it?

Impossible.

let alone keeping them quiet and not attracting attention in a park with thousands of parents, grandparents and families.............

Oh well have to keep those myths going, any one have some ice I want to go find a kidney.......

Hahahahah!

Op, when mine were little I used a sharpie. And taught them what a cm badge looked like as soon as we walked into the park

The cm in the park doesn't necessarily have access to your hotel information and even if they did they may not have access to your contact information. Disney hasn't said the band could be used to find lost children. Op cm will not look under clothing for contact information. Look at safety tats. They are temporary tattoos that you can personalize. We use them whenever we go to a place that is large, crowded and kids are likely to get lost (NYC, Bronx zoo, beach etc). We put if lost and moms cell and dad's cell.

I would bet security can get the necessary info from your MB. Heck if they can use the thing to find where you are seated in BOG, I would bet they could use it to help locate the parent's contact info in cases of a lost child. Would like to see if a security cm could confirm or deny this though.

At the very least, you could write your cell number in sharpie on the inside of the MB.

I bought these. I put them on the kids at home before we went to the airport and took extras with me. They stayed on through showers, baths and two swim days and my kids didn't mind wearing them at all. I put them on the inner part of their forearms and we practiced what to do if they got lost.

We did use the temp tattoos. I don't recall the brand - one I got off here. It lasted the entire 10 days we were there - in August heat and pool temps. It was around $10. I still have 5 left.

We use these too, Safety Tats. DD didn't get lost, thankfully.

I got my kids id bracelets, but i'd probably just write my #on their skin. but that's me :)

While I love Sharpies, pretty much because they are awsome, but equally because they allow me to pay for fun things like Disney World (and less fun things like groceries and my mortgage!), my good friends in Sharpie/Papermate's Consumer Affairs department will tell you NOT to draw on your kids with a Sharpie!! They are not medical grade markers and should not be used on skin.

OP, if you would like to know the answer to your question, please call Newell Rubbermaid -Office Products (aka Sharpie) and ask. The consumer affairs reps are wonderful and will be happy to talk to you. I don't have their # off hand, but they are located in Oak Brook IL. You can get the # online as well.

Don't see my idea mentioned:

When my kids were little I printed up credit-card sized id's with kids name, parents names and phone numbers - also hometown for the heck of it.

I would put small disney stickers in the corners and then laminate them. Put a pin through it and pin them to the BOTTOM of their t-shirts (when they were really little they didn't like them - on the bottom part - they couldn't feel it as much).

They liked it and I felt better.

Lol, I don't think there is any factual evidence that a number written on a child for a few days will cause them harm.

When we took the kids for the 1st time they were about 4 & 5 and I was worried about getting separated. An even bigger fear was they would be too distraught to repeat the information we had taught them. A GREAT tip I received from reading the DIS (way back then) was to visit your local pet store - Petco & PetSmart both have them - and have an engraved tag made. Attach the tag to your child's shoe (bottom of laces, somewhere it won't fall off) so IF they get lost & IF they cannot communicate (because they are too distraught or maybe are non-verbal) all the information was right there. We let the kids pick out the shape of the disc - my son chose a round black disc while my daughters was a pink heart... so they don't necessarily "look" like pet tags! And they weren't overly expensive.

We did child's name, home address, and a cell number to contact. We limited to this so we could re-use it on other trips. You could also add a piece of masking tape with the resort you are staying at to the other side if you wanted to but we did not.

Nowhere did I say that it would for sure...I *said* that Sharpies are not for use on skin because they are not medical grade markers. As someone who knows an awful lot about Sharpie, I am telling the OP and others that there is no medical evidence that Sharpies are OK for use on skin - they are not tested for human skin and are not developed for that use, nor are they FDA approved for it - and if you don't believe me, call Sharpies consumer line. I am 100% positive they will tell you exactly what I just said. I should know...my desk has been two rows over from them since we all moved to the same floor in anticipation of our building move that happened Friday.

Obviously, I work for this company, if you haven't figured it out yet. Sharpies are awesome for hundreds of different things...but not childrens skin.

I created a tag to hang on her pin trading lanyard with our hotel info and how to contact us. I even put her picture on it.. Super cute and she always has her lanyard!

We use labels in little kids clothing with a name and my cell phone number. I have been really happy with the labels from label daddy. They are very easy to stick on and stay on very well--through a couple of years of washing in some cases for us. And dd has never complained about them being uncomfortable. They work better over the long haul than sharpie writing directly on a label as the sharpie will eventually get fuzzy and hard to read.

Dh used to be a cop and he says that in his experience cops will look for labels, especially on the inside back collar of a shirt where a tag is or in a jacket. I don't know that cast members would though. We also have been known to stick a business card wth cell phones in kids' pockets so they can hand them over if they are too upset to talk or remember a number.
