Sharks on the cruises

Zsa Zsa,

My DH and I just got off the Magic yesterday (Yes, the withdrawals are terrible.) While at Castaway Cay you should be fine. I know that they told us that they check the shark net every morning before they allow anyone in the water to make sure there are no holes. I do know that there are some nurse sharks outside that line but not inside. Plus the water is so clear that it is incredible what you see. Plus if he is nervous you can allow your child to go in a little way. They have lifeguards posted along the edge of the water and at the beach. They do a shift change every 30 minutes that I could see.

The only "sharks" you will see are the ones trying to rip you off in some of the ports! :sunny:
:lmao: :lmao: One of those tried to pick pocket me in Cozumel.

Yes, and he has actually publicly commented on how bad he has felt about the image sharks have now because of his book.

He also publicly commented on the fact that people needed to remember his book was fiction. Not to be taken as a real event.

That being said his book WAS based losely on the 1916 Jersey shore shark attacks.

I thought he got the idea from a story he read about a fisherman hooking a 4,500 lb shark of the coast of Long Island. :confused3

He very well could have combined both stores. Which if you think about it would seem he did. Because I don't think any where in the 1916 attacks was the shark a HUGE one like the book and movie makes it out to be.

This is an interesting site that has witness acounts as to what happen.

It sounds alot like that scene in Jaws when the kids are swimming in that tidal area that the shark swims up.

It also has some good information about shark attacks.

Zsa Zsa - please don't take this the wrong way, but if your hubby is so afraid of the water then why are you doing a cruise????

My DH snorkels and he snorkled with a barracuda in the Cayman's last May. Let me just add it was a very short snorkel! He did get a pic of it though! I'm sure glad I don't snorkel! But I'm not afraid of the water. :sunny:

Well, the answer is because I really want to go, my daughter really wants to go, and I think that once he goes on a cruise he will love it. There are a lot of things to do on a cruise other than swim in the ocean. I know he likes to swim in other circumstances--but he has repeatedly told me how stupid it would be to swim in the ocean. Anyhow, I've sent him this link. Hope he reads it and becomes convinced. Thanks for everyone's advice and input!
