Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon

Has anyone heard any updates on this? I was reminiscing yesterday about how great of an experience this was and wondered if it really is permanently closed. I think Typhoon Lagoon was scheduled to come back from annual refurb late this month, so does anyone have any news?

Seriously....

My blood is boiling thinking about this....
Does anyone know for sure?

I sure hope its just a rumor.

If not and they d take it out, it will be another management mistake.

The wdw website has the shark reef listed as "closed for enhancement"

That could mean anything from exactly what they said to river country...or anywhere in between.

I tell you what - if this is yet another instance of them just eliminating something to save part of the budget...and getting away with it because their are no protests and picketers out front...my patience is beyond over extended.

That company is making ridiculous profits and will be for the foreseeable future...

Nothing should be closed without immediate replacement.

So if they are replacing it how do you expect them to immediately do it without first closing the area where the replacement is going? It's like saying you have to build the replacement building in the exact spot before you tear the old one down.

Except for *ridiculous* profits, which every company wants to make, I totally agree!

No...
I just don't want it mothballed. If they close it to replace it...so be it.

But lets
Face it...the shark reef is unique and out of the ordinary...something characteristic of Disney: it just should be kept...period.

The fact that its not that crowded and doesn't have a gift shop should be irrelevant.

Ridiculous profits are those that are made hand over fist while they attempt to alter/streamline the entire park experience to save costs...

And the jury is still
Out on whether that's what they are doing.

Hopefully they are just enhancing/rehabbing it and this is a rumor. It was always a must do for us on our summer visits.

If it must go, I hope they have something to replace it and it's not just a closure. Hopefully someone will report back when they can, not sure how many people actually hit TL before March/April.

The website has every attraction at Typhoon Lagoon as "closed for refurbishment" right now because the entire park has been in the annual closure. So, I'm not reading anything into that at all. What I'm trying to figure out is when the park will come back from annual refurb (I'm guessing any day now) and when it does reopen will Shark Reef reopen with it.

That's my bad...

I thought they were coming off of rehab...

Though it was closed in early November as well... So this is an extended rehab.

I imagine we'll find out about any change to shark reef shortly before they reopen...if there is any.

Each water park closes for 2 months every year. Normally it's Nov/Dec for Typhoon Lagoon and Jan/Feb for Blizzard Beach.

It looks like Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to come back on Sunday so I guess we'll get our answer soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is a rumor, not fact.

Based on there website, starting Jan.4th (if memory serves me correctly) is the first day this park lists hours.

I hope it's still there, maybe even better!!! Someone pls let us know.

Disney World website has this listed as having reopened with the rest of Typhoon Lagoon today.

As I am England I am unable to speculate if this is indeed the case - hopefully there will be confirmation soon from someone who is a bit nearer!

Another Disney fan site is reporting that Shark Reef is open today along with all of the other attractions at Typhoon Lagoon.

That is awesome news! I so want to do this again next time we go. I'm so glad this rumor looks to be just a rumor.
