Shark Reef at Typhoon lagoon to close in September?

This is a shame. It truly was a unique experience and one of those "hidden gems" within WDW. Now you'll have to shell out $145 a person to snorkel with the marine life at the Aqua Tour in Epcot.

How annoying. We wanted to do this in 2014 but TL was closed when we went for refurb and going back next year with the shark reef being a reason to visit one of the water parks. :(

Has a date set for its rumored closing or just "sometime in September"? We are going to TL on August 30th and chose that water park solely because DD wants to swim with the sharks!

This is at least the third time this rumor has come around. It's probably a high maintenance attraction, but it is also a big upsell location. (They keep one side for exclusive snorkeling/scuba experiences.) It seems strange to me that they would close it. When DD was little, we couldn't get her out of there - at 12 years old last year, it sort of freaked her out and she only went once.

No! We are going to TL for the first time the last week of September. This shark swim was what I was looking forward to the most. Isn't it a bit odd for an attraction to close with so little notification? I thought Disney usually gave guests several months notice when they planned to close an attraction.

With the new family raft slide coming, and the winter refurb scheduled, it may be TL is in store for changes. We'll see. My son loved doing the SAS part in 2013, I'll have to make sure he does it again this trip.

Oh...well...I see the article maked the same conclusion.

We're going September 20th and Shark Reef was the main draw for us. I really hope it's still open then!

agh! I was hoping to do this instead of discovery cove this fall *sigh* ...

As one commenter posted under that "report", it's still showing operating hours through the end of the year.

Wasn't this guy totally wrong on something else earlier this month?

I'm sad and at the same time I'm not. I have done Shark Reef many times. I don't know why. I live in Florida, I can just drive 2 blocks to the beach and slap my face in warmer water. However, the borrowed equipment at this attraction has always given my eyes and nose quite the burn, even after standing at the showers rinsing the stuff out. The water is a bit chilly and you're only allowed to float forward and not allowed to dive down to get a close look at anything. The novelty of it was kinda cool and it was like swimming in a large fish tank, but I found it very restrictive. Typhoon Lagoon is one of my fave places at Disney World and I've used the Shark Reef as a sales pitch to get newbs to come with me, but for me, I have found myself skipping this attraction the last few times I went. My son feels the same way and my husband would rather just drive down to the Keys.

I considered this and the scuba option, but my husband doesn't dive, and the amount you pay to snorkel is more than I pay for a half-day of diving in Maui...it just didn't seem practical. We're doing Club Villain instead. :)

They should wait to close it till after the Blizzard Beach winter refurb is done. Bad enough we only get Typhoon Lagoon (and my family prefers Blizzard Beach) but now they are likely closing attactions at TL. Boo.

Hmm, I didn't think about that. That would have been a good idea imo. Let TL go down for refurb and then just don't open Shark Reef when it comes back online.
